Did you make sure there isn't any interference with the fuel level sender on any of the fuel pump lines? Mine has this issue (albeit very slight) after I replaced the sender.

How do you go about adjusting it?

I guess adjusting is the wrong term. Like you said, the float is most likely caught up on something.

when you replace the pump you must pay attention so that no wires or lines are protruding beyond the basket as that will weight on the float or completely block it causing fuel level sender to report wrong level on the bottom of tank. there is more than one sender in the tank and they are daisy chained with wiring.

Mine does the same thing. I've gone in 3 or 4 times now and have repositioned the wires each time, but it still happens, I'm thinking the top end of my sender is worn out.

They probably didn't align the basket in the correct orientation. The fuel basket has a notch (upside down triangle shape) in it that, you must align in order to avoid the gas gauge issue. And now the sending unit is hitting the hoses and wires and giving you a wrong reading in the gas gauge. Like others have stated you just need to adjust the hoses or basket. Here are some pictures for reference. The black arrow pointing at the notch should be installed next to the red arrow component.
