Difference between 5 speed transmission codes?

I found a link that lists the gear ratios all the same between the FNU, FPT, FTZ, and GBT transmissions, and I know they all use the same clutch, drive axles, drive shaft, etc. So what's the difference between the four transmission codes?

Nothing, an 01A is an 01A, but there are two types of gearing (1.8 & 2.8). Probably some revisions on internal parts to account for the codes. I've run everything from an 01A out of a 1994 Audi 90 to an '02 B6 01A.

I know the FTZ uses different axles than the others. When I went to order a left front axle for mine all they wanted to know was FTZ or non. I didn't know and my tag was missing so I ordered them both and one was definitely longer than the other.

You can swap axle flanges from your old trans. If buying axles, however, that's important.

Wait what? Lol. 3 are the same...but the FTZ is different? I ordered my axles off rock auto and they didn't have a special type listed, they were just different prices. I'm also trying to figure which one to get.
