Did you ever manage to buy one, or did you find one to borrow from someone that one time?

My extractor has a capacity indicator which works well. During the last oil change, I extracted as much as expected, minus residual amounts in the filter, internal engine components, etc. I performed an oil change on my wife's Rx350 and had similar results. It works! There are two types, manual pump and pneumatic. I would recommend that you get an extractor with a large capacity AND one which gives you the option of pneumatic. Otherwise, you'll have to pump, pump, pump.

Yes, I got 5 QTs out with the MVP extractor I bought from Amazon. Great piece of garage tech.

JeriQo, that extractor only holds 3 quarts so you're gonna have to repeat the process twice. I'd try to find something with a larger capacity. When you're ready, come on over and you can try mine.

I use the mityvac extractor (Amazon). It's really convenient and holds about 10 quarts I believe. I was concerned about not getting all of the contaminants out at first, but seeing that the dealers all use these and that the oil is hot enough that the contaminants are floating around, I feel better about it. Since the B8 has such a convenient filter location up top, oil changes can be done as fast as it takes to extract and fill oil, about 10 or 15 minutes. The nozzle slurps around at the bottom in the end, but I don't think it's possible even with the drain plug to get all contaminants out. Like with most flushes, you just try to dilute enough with fresh clean oil to get rid of most unwanted debris. I don't NEED to use it on my wife's car because the filter is on the bottom anyway. I need to get under there one way or the other and the oil drain is the easy part. It is definitely messier without the extractor, so I might start using the extractor on her car too. Cleaning up greasy oil catchers is the most time consuming part of the change.

Does that really hold 5 quarts? It looks small by comparison. How well is this one working for you? That's a great price and I'm tempted.

I got one from Amazon. You have to snake it in somewhat gingerly (that's what she said?) but, yep, got it knocked out in my apt parking lot.

OK, this is a noob question, but my B8.5 doesn't have a dipstick. can you still do the extraction method?

Yep. None of the B8's came with the dipstick. Though, I'd recommend picking one up from ECS as the MMI digital gauge is less than reliable.

I was just thinking about this today. I've only been able to extract about 3.6 quarts of oil using the MityVac Extractor. I even tried placing my car's nose on a downward slope and I still extracted under 4 quarts. Aren't I supposed to extract at 4 quarts plus whatever is left showing on the AMI?

Our B8's (including the B8.5s) didn't come with a dipstick. We get an electronic dipstick on the AMI/MMI and yes, you can do the extraction method through the dipstick tube.

I bought the ECS Magnetic Drain Plug to combat this problem. I pull it every 2-3 changes and it does a great job of collecting debris!

I friend has it and I used it once just to see how the extraction method worked out. It was flawless so I purchased this one since I have an air compressor at my house.

I purchased this http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/...d+extractor.do but for the life of my could not get any oil out and i pumped it like 15-20 times. Qarmed up my car and waited couple mins after and I put the hoses correctly on the extractor and put it in far enough in the dip stick hole but every time i pump it is see the oil go to a certain height and then stop as it there is not enough pressure.

I had to raised the car and do to the traditional method this time, but Can anyone assist me on the extractor?

I can't speak for this extractor as we have a mity-vac at our shop, but I found using our narrowest hose attachment and running it as far in as I can (at least until there's resistance) works well. It really helps if the vehicle is at optimal operating temperature.

You have a vacuum leak. Some extractors comes partially disassembled and require that you tighten the very top. Read the directions and see if yours falls into this case. Double check that all other areas are properly sealed because the vacuum you're building is leaking from somewhere.

I have the mityvac, but it should operate under the same principles. If you are not getting pressure, I would check two things - sorry if obvious. 1) Check seals are shut and tight on the extractor itself (usually a plug or release valve) and the tubes. 2) It helps to have the oil fill cap loosened just enough to let air in so you aren't fighting any pressure from the other side.

When I snaked my hose all the way in, I believe it curled up on itself and wasn't at the bottom of the pan. Assuming you have a tight seal on the canister itself, you may have to experiment with the hose itself to find the sweet spot to start sucking out the oil.

Sidkneeee ... Make sure to remove the oil fill cap. The first time I used an extractor I didn't, and it took a lot longer to draw out the oil.
