Avant going crazy

Hi Guys,

My 2011 model 2.0 TDI Avant is going crazy, sometimes it will not start, and the errors that come up on the dash are as follows; Stability program fault, Parking brake fault, headlight range control defective.

The car either starts first thing or it wont and then the errors come up on the dash, if the car starts it drives 100% normal, no limp mode, nothing strange, also no errors appear when driving, they only come on start up.

I went to see a fiend of mine to see it with vagcom, and this is the result, we're lost as we can't figure it out, we tried looking for the ECU relay, which is mentioned online for other models as 109, but we couldn't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where it might be?

Any help is highly appreciated.

I forgot to add when the 3 errors appear on the dash if I leave the key in the engine fan goes nuts, and sometimes even continues when I pull the key out, it will only stop after I close/open the car again with the keyfob.

You need to remove the codes and see which ones come back, but my guess would be that this is a handbrake issue.

OK so update, although nothing great.

I substituted the relay for the ECU with one from the boot, and no joy, and I changed the Terminal 15 voltage
supply relay for a new one as there was none to substitute with.

What did happen though is I could start 3/4 times, and then I got an error only just the ESP one, and it still let me start the car, the handbrake and lights were gone for another 3 attempts after, and then they came back and it wont start again. The errors only appear on the dash when I try to start it they do not appear when it runs.

Another thing I noticed is when I unplug the negative on the battery and wait a bit, when reconnecting it then starts OK again a couple of times, and then it's back to square 1.

Seeing as the car is half apart, I did notice that the relay for the glow plugs and engine current makes a lot of clicks before when I start and it doesn't, in the notes it says it's for this:

A - Automatic glow period
control unit -J179-

-J757- → Note → Note

If the glow plug light goes out then I can start, if it stays on it wont start and the other errors also come up.

I'm lost, I guess I'm just looking way to deep into it as now everything seems to do something.

I'm really curious what your battery voltage is. Have you ever replaced the battery? I ask because I've seen quite a few b8 posts with similar/strange electrical issues like yours, and a lot of them seemed to be battery related.

I don't remember off the top of my head, I will check again later on and post it up.

I had a new battery in there for 2 days and it made no difference, although I'm now wondering if it could be that the new battery wasn't recognised by the system due to me not changing the BEM code?

I get 12.41 on the battery when just opening the boot and the key isn't in the ignition. I'm not knowledgeable on batteries, so forgive me if doesn't make any sense or is useless, but when the car has the error on the dash I get 12.03, and if there is no error on the dash I get 12.26. And with the car on, it goes up to 14.6x gradually as it sits there idling (maybe more but shut it off as the smell of a Diesel idling doesn't give such a healthy feeling).
