AWE Track Exhaust. Drone is Unbearable with DSG. Need Help with Fix!

    Hey everyone,

So I recently just got the AWE Track Edition Exhaust, and it sounds amazing. However, When i'm between 2-3k rpm, the drone in the car is just unbearable. My girlfriend is complaining that it hurts her ears, and I honestly don't blame her.
Anyone know what I can do to alleviate this problem? I'm currently using stock downpipes, and I've heard that getting a resonated downpipe might get rid of the drone. Anyone have any experience with this?

Which downpipe did you end up going with?

Yeah, I think your only real option is to try the resonated downpipes to see if it helps, or try to switch it out for a touring version. The resonated downpipes are going to do quite a bit to kill the drone on a DSG model.

Go with res DP and if that doesn't work dyno Matt and u believe disabling the sound generator works too. If you just installed the track it does drone more then when it finally breaks in

Resonated DPs are going to cost you an arm and a leg, plus installation if you don't have the means to install them yourself. An alternative would be to keep your current setup and install two small resonators, one on each pipe after the central muffler. The affect is essentially the same as running resonated DPs without the substantial cost.

Turn your soundaktor off too, that will help.

This. Pull the fuse if you haven't already. After that, the resonated DP's AWE offers are your best bet since they are cheaper than converting it to the Touring. If you are the original owner you can get the discounted DP's for up to a year after your catback only exhaust purchase.

not sure how much resonated down pipes are gonna help... but as others have said that's kinda all you can do if you want to keep the track. The disabling of the soundakor definitely helps a tiny bit. I will say this tho, even the touring drones.

Does the track exhaust use a x pipe?
I know placing a x pipe as close to the engine as possible will really help with drone. It also will produce more power close to the engine also by speeding up the airflow..

It does, but it is a ways down past the "downpipes" (I say that because what we call the downpipes are after the cats). The track is the same basic layout as the touring, but the rear resonators are replaced with strait pipes.

So, it's basically exhaust manifolds-->cats-->either stock, resonated, or non-resonated downpipes-->then either:
-Touring: x-pipe, central muffler, two resonators where the mufflers are
-Track: x-pipe, central muffler, strait pipes

Yes it has a x...Just looked it up.You still have stock dp's I see.Loose the baby resonators,it will be louder yes but really help with the drone..I have built a few custom exhausts for dsg s4s and those little resonators up front really create a drone with aftermarket exhausts.
