shifter trim question

I bought this part from ECS: 8D0864261H6DP.. I swap my trans from tip to 6 speed. the part from ECS is way too long to fit onto my center console. the back part of the manual trim above seems like it extends 3-4" more than the tip shifter trim. do I need a different ash tray? center console? I wasn't aware that there was a difference in length of the shifter trims

ECS sent you the wrong part. Exact same thing happened to my friend. I think the longer piece is pre-facelift (older B5).
