Hello Everyone,
So, I just bought my first Audi this morning. It is a B7 A4 2.0T. I am pretty mechanically inclined and have owned a VW in the past and am trying to sell my E92 BMW right now. I have never owned a turbo charged car though. So, I was trying to look up noises/things to look for before buying and I kept coming across the "if it sounds like a dentist drill" or is winding really high, the turbo is probably bad. I test drove this car, it seemed a little whiney, but not as bad as some of the videos I have watched. The guy I bought it from owns a trans shop and all the reviews about him and his business were fantastic. This guy definitely knew his stuff and seemed like a honest guy. He did state that he did a USP balance shaft delete on it, so it idles a little rough. At first with the slight winding noise of the turbo and the 2.0 sounding like a diesel I was unsure if it was in legit shape. He assured me that the 2.0's were just loud engines because of the direct injection and that is normal turbo sound from the turbo just winding up to preform. After some research I found that the 2.0 sounds "normal" and the turbo I assume was just winding up to do its job. So I bought the car and when I got home I was just revving the engine in neutral and I started to feel unsure about the loudness and whinning of the turbo. I then noticed a "cranking" or kind of like something grinding or stalling noise when the turbo is winding down. I attached a link to a video I took of it. Did I just screw myself and buy and car with a blown turbo and also possibly something else wrong with it? I would really appreciate any help and I hope to be able to contribute to this forum in the future!
