    B&O Tweeter Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am contemplating upgrading my speakers but I really like how the pop up of the B&O tweeters look...

Was wondering if anyone knows if I could replace the tweeter within the pop up module?

I'm interested to know what sound system you are going for. I think it's possible to work around the popup modules to put different tweeters in them, perhaps molding the enclosure with similar shape to hold the tweeter. One thing I know for sure that this is not going to be an easy task.

I am looking to go with Dynaudio Esotec 362 3-way setup. My friend works at a high end car audio shop and really likes those. Only issue is the 3" driver in the door is free floating with no cut out behind it...I think that will be annoying but fixable.

I want to do this in stages as to not break the bank. First install the speakers, then later get a Mobridge and amps, then later look at sub options.

The real issue would be retaining that pop up module and replacing the tweeter inside of it...my friend kind of made a face when I asked...then said maybe lol.

I seriously do not recommend doing this project in "stages" as you suggest.

Those Dynaudio speakers are really nice. I should know, I'm using a pair of their Esotec MW-182 woofers currently. ;) Also have a pair of their Esotar 1200 subs.
But you don't want to run those nice Dyn speakers on the crappy B&O amplifier with the crappy B&O processing. They are going to sound like garbage because you can't tune the B&O DSP, and you might even damage those nice speakers in the process.

I really suggest you go with the mobridge right away. It will bypass the B&O processing and give you a perfectly flat stereo signal to work with.
Then add a DSP of your choice, amps and speakers. You don't have to break the bank with the most expensive gear, but I really do think you owe it to yourself not to piecemeal the project at the risk of poor results.

Check out the Helix P Six DSP. It's a 6 channel amplifier with built-in DSP processor. Very small footprint is easy to install anywhere. It outputs 6 x 120 Watts of power, plus has an 8 channel DSP inside.

Mosconi also does some small amps with DSP included, as part of the D2 line. They are tiny little amps but output great power for the size.

Also, if you do go with the 3-way components up front (which are an excellent choice), I also do not recommend using the 3" midrange in the door location. Put the 3" and the tweet up in the A pillars and keep them as close together as possible.
The midbass can go down in the door, but keep the mids and tweets up high for better performance and blending.

I agree with your friend and say forget about the motorized tweeter lens. It's a gimmick feature that was designed for no other purpose than the visual wow factor. Even if the lens does work acoustically, it would probably only work for that B&O tweeter. Put another tweeter in there and all bets are off.

Take a look at where I placed the 3" speakers in my car as an example. This helps to achieve a nice, high and wide soundstage.

Thanks Subter you are 100% correct and the voice of reason, I just really like the cool pop up feature

Perhaps I should be looking at it more like "how much can these things fetch me" vs "what's it going to take to keep these things". I imagine the tweeters could fetch a pretty penny.

Also that amp looks PERFECT. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
