Would you roll the dice on this 2012 B8 S4??

Sorry for the giant wall of text below....

I'm coming over to what I like to call the "gentlemen's club" seeing now that my Subaru "boy racer" days are at an end. I'm on the hunt for a B8 around 25k(I know I should up the budget, but saving for a house down payment is priority). I've been reading what seems like many conflicting views on higher mileage S4's but there are many for sale in my area. Mostly 2010's and 11's with similar mileage (around 70k)but then this 2012 popped up. It just got the once over from the dealer and they replaced the injectors and something else in the emission system. Carfax shows 2 owners, first owner drove 25k a year for 3 year lease. Second owner purchased in 9/15 and traded it in 12/15......HMMM. I asked the dealer and it was just a straight up trade in for something different I guess. But that means they won't CPO this car having had two owners.

I've done my fair share of wrenching, pretty extensive things like engine swaps, clutches, differential work etc. so I'm ok with having to get my hands dirty with this car. Although this would be my first Audi. I'm not to keen on buying an extended warranty since I can fix most things myself.

The price is good and if I can negotiate down a bit it could be a really good deal.

If the test drive goes well and the car appears to be in good mechanical condition, given that the first owner racked up some serious highway miles, I'm seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on this one.

What would you do?? Am I loco???

Do it. They are very stout cars. Mine I bought brand new and was a 2011 and had very minor little things at first. Once fixed, never a problem. Maybe the most reliable car I ever owned next to my 2004 350Z which needed nothing but tires and oil.

Put a few mods into the B8 S4 and no Subaru is in the same league of having a fast car, that isn't a tin can.

Go for it, just be prepared to have a few grand laying around just in case.

Price you pay for not driving a Subaru. I know I sound douchey but I've been there, these cars are worth the money, you just have to pay to play.

I'm a little bummed at that asking price since I have an '11 bought new with similar miles. My car is rock solid so far, a real pleasure to drive. I've done quite a bit to it and it has only made it better. If carfax and a a solid lookover by a mech come up clean I'd go for that in a minute.

I dont think you can beat that price.. wow. Get an aftermarket warranty if possible. But to be honest.. you hear more bad then good on the internet. Get a service history on it from the dealership.. if it looks good then what else are you going to find at 23K?? Crazy price..

    Welcome to Audizine!

It's a trap! You might get a good deal on that car but it will cost you thousands in mods. You've been warned :)

Yes add 10k to any price if it's not already nodded and you're under the age of 70.

having a 2011 with 88k on the clock myself, also in automatic. here is my take.

I would not buy that car unless you also purchase a solid aftermarket warranty. It;s not about wrenching on the little things thats going to be an issue, it's the transmission. If the DSG goes, you are looking at a minimum repair of $3k, and if the whole thing goes, you are looking at a 5 figure repair.

For that reason alone, the aftermarket warranty is almost a necessity for this car. Not saying anything bad about the transmission, but it's a risk vs reward issue, do you want to roll the dice that a transmission that while few and far between, has had these repairs have to happen?

if it was a manual I would say get it after a mechanic of your choice gives it a once-over. Bc it's a auto, with high miles, I personally would like the peace of mind that comes with an aftermarket warranty should the transmission ever give up.

looks like a nice car otherwise, my car also had the PCV valve fixed (the emission thing you aluded to) it was a $1,600 repair.....fully covered by my aftermarket warranty.

Looks like I got sold up the river on here. The car was mysteriously purchased by some kid before I arrived at the dealership to drive the car. What pisses me off is that I've been waiting for this car to be done getting fixed at the dealer for a week and they pulled the rug out from under me. Such is life I guess, probably a blessing in disguise.

more will come. Don't sweat it. there are always leases being turned in. You may get a crack at a well priced CPO. Or maybe ask the dealer to let you know once their service/loaner cars run their course. I got a heck of a deal on mine that way and my cousin has purchased his last few cars that way.
