    New to me a6 avant

Hey guys I just bought a 99 a6 avant auto with the 2.8. I bought it off from a friend for dirt cheap because he needed money. It needs work but right now it has a weird idle problem.

It idles low at like 500 and then if you rev it up to 1200 it starts to surge from 1200-1600 but if you rev it past there it seems to rev fine. It just those low rpms that's messed up.

I plan on taking the throttle body off and cleaning it out real good. Never worked on audis before but have turned a few wrenches. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a hunt for a vacuum leak is in your future.

Welcome! Post up a pic or two when you get a chance. The 2.8 is a pretty robust engine, it should treat you well. How many miles? I think carmudgeon is right and you'll find a vacuum leak. There are also a number of other maintenance items for keeping her running smoothly after the vacuum leak fix.
