    APR Stage 2 on k03

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello everyone, I have been searching around a lot of threads and am very confused. I see other members talking about having APR stage 2 and 2+ on their stock k03s. I have also found YouTube videos of people having stage 2+ on stock turbo. I currently have stage 1+ with injectors, fmic, forge dv, full turbo back exhaust and intake. I want to go to stage 2+ to get the tune for my test pipe and fmic. I emailed APR and they told me they only do stage 2 with k04s.

    Am I missing something here?

I've always thought that a stage 2 or 2+ was the same as stage 1 or 1+, just with the check engine light written out.

For APR.. Stage 1 and 1+ are for K03

    Stage 2 is K04

Some tuning companies like unitronic have a stage 2 for K03.. So depending on what software you are looking at it may be different.

Well maybe it's time for a bit bigger turbo then!

That is illogical, since there is nothing to justify a higher stage designation number.

Their website used to reflect that, but now it only lists 1 and 1+.

The '+' used to designate larger injectors, with the cat cel written out on the stage 2.

That's how it always has been. Stage 2 was just coded for test pipes and exhaust. The fact that it's now a k04 tune is news to me...

APR Stage 2 has always been the tune with the K04. I had it when it came out many years ago. It was designated as Stage 2. There was no plus (+) as you had to go to the TT225 injectors with the turbo anyway.

This isnt true. The k04 tune was always called "K04 tune". Stage 2 was their stock injector file with cat delete.

    APR Stage 2 on k03

This. I'm pretty sure I haven't been reading the apr site wrong for 4+ years.

Edit: since the internet doesn't forget:

    https://www.goapr.com/products/ecu_upgrade_8ea418t.html

Stage two was a test pipe/HFC plus supporting mods tune. 2+ was that plus TT injectors.

Their b7 offerings are aligned the same way. Stage 3 for the b7 doesn't officially exist but used to be a gtrs but now all they offer is a k04 (very different than a b6 k04, it's a pretty big upgrade).

It sounds like APR is just revising/cutting back on offerings for older platforms. I don't blame them I can't imagine they sell many turbo upgrade kits for the b5/6/7 anymore.

That's why I was so confused when apr told me they only will do 1+ for me and that's it! I had read so many old threads that told a different story. That's okay though, I bought a 20 dollar k04 that needs rebuilt. Just need to find the best price to get it fixed! Any forum members do it?

2013 is not old. I had APR's Stage 1+ tune done in 2005. First with a set of 550cc injectors that melted and caused backfires (Delphi brand), and then with the TT225 injectors. APR introduced the K04 tune in 2007 and called it Stage 2. I bought a new BW K04 and got one of APR's early Stage 2 programs. It was called Stage 2 back then. This was just with APR.

Back then you only had limited choices:
    - Stage 1 (chip)
    - Stage 1+ (chip + injectors)
    - Stage 2 (K04 + injectors)
    - Stage 3 (GTRS turbo + injectors + MAF + manifold + TIP)

That's all there was at that time.

Since then, people stared introducing stages and pluses around Test Pipes/HFC/Deletes. The original stages were built to work with or without the stock exhaust and cat. They would just make a cat delete just an option on a Stage, but never call it something different.

Now I believe other tuning companies never called the K04 a Stage 2 setup and this also has led to some of the confusion in stage meaning.

Did you see my link? Not that I've been around as long as some of you, but ever since I got my b6 in 2011 apr has had stage 2 be a test pipe and FMIC version of their stage 1 k03 tune.

How about a post from 2010 and 2011? The + is used to designate the larger injectors. Stg2 was stock injectors with a testpipe file.

Not going to get into an argument over stage labels.

To the OP: The only thing that they can tune is the cat delete for the K04 program (their website mentions the requirement of a high flow cat... the test pipe would be similar... and would code it out to not get any CEL). There's no software change for adding a FMIC or DSMIC.

    https://www.goapr.com/products/turbo_b6a4_k04.html

The tuning that APR has for the K03 turbo (both basic chip and chip + injectors) assumes that the OEM cat is still in place with no option to code it out for a HFC or test pipe.

Haha nor is there any reason to. Let's just leave at: APR has changed their stage numbering scheme over the years. And it seems they've altered it again recently.

In any event it's sort of academic, because while I liked my apr tune and have no complaints about it, there are better, cheaper options out there now that I would suggest over apr. especially since they're obviously paring back what they're offering for the 1.8t recently.
