    Its been a while...B5 A4 2.8 30 questions

So long story short i put a 2nd motor in my 30v after it started tapping and misfiring real bad. The second motor ran amazing for a month until the brand new timing belt tensionor took a crap and the motor jumped timing... (yeah it was a rough day). This 2nd engine wasn't the only thing i did. While having the engine out i ordered a brand new clutch, and flywheel. Had all the trans stuff replaced while the trans was out. Also bought brand new stern solid motor mounts. I wanted the whole car to just feel solid and i wanted it to be reliable..

Jump forward another year and a half... after the car sat for a good 14 months i ended up buying another engine and having a shop do it just because i was real limited on time and knew nothing would go wrong.
Well its been about 6 months now and the engine is solid, no issues with the motor at all.

One issue i currently have is a bad oil leak. Now the engine was from a company called sharper edge engines. The motor came with the timing belt and all already done and that was perfect for me because if anything timing related went wrong it wasnt on me.. The valve cover gaskets WERE done, i had a tech at my work check the cam seals on the front driverside and rear passenger side of the heads...he said theyre dry. I don't know where the oil leak is coming from and it got so bad that its hard to tell. I can say the back of the passenger side head smokes with the car fully warmed up. Also the front of the engine where the belts are is covered in oil and even the rubber on the rad support is covered along with the hood above the front of the engine. A tech at my work said without fully looking at it he thinks its the crank seal which i'm told is $$$$. This is the first issue i'mm here trying to get help for.

Second issue is last few weeks i noticed my battery volt gauge dropping to around 12 at idle. When i start driving it does go back up to 13.5-14. Last week while driving at night (headlights, fogs, heat on) i was at a red light and the volt gauge dropped down below 12. i checked the battery and noticed the negative terminal was loose and thought maybe that had something to do with it. Few days later, driving with my ac on, headlights, & fogs i noticed at idle the voltage dropped down slightly below 12 again and this time my battery light came on and went off a few times. Never a solid battery light and when i turned my AC off the battery light didnt come back. Now i have no issue buying an alternator, i ran my car on air with 2 compressors for over 2 years so i knew the alternator was running a little more than average. Does this sound like it is definetely the alternator?

Maybe someone in PA around Philly 19154 would like to make some extra money by fixing this oil leak i have.
Been thinking about selling both of my B5s over the last few days just because i'm sick of being in the position im in. If i could figure everything out and fix the few issues im dealing with currently i feel like i'd love to keep this car.

check oil cooler seal. If it failed like on ours, fyi we needed to replace all hoses and TB because of oil spray.

The timing belt is covered and doesnt have any oil on it. mainly just the rollers and serp belt in the front.
I can't tell if the cooler is leaking however it is slightly crooked.

Post some pics of the car. Valve cover gaskets, cam tensioner gaskets, all common areas to expect a leak. Front and rear main seals do leak but best way to verify that is do a good visual inspection. Wipe everything dry after you check it out and check the following day. And i think you are on right track with replacing alternator. Probably the reason for lower voltage although im not certain. With front end off, you'll be able to see any leaks up front.

Yeah i'm thinking about just replacing all the common seals and then go from there if anything else is leaking. I can filter out what is leaking a little easier.
