    Fan speed when starting car

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi All,
when i turn on my car, the fan starts at level 11. Is there a way (vagcom?) to change the start-up speed of the fan so that each time the car starts it isn't blowing so high?

When I turn on my defrost it defaults to 11. When I turn on the ac it defaults to 1.

Could be the CTS, mine seems to run high circuit and the fan runs, but sometimes at startup, sometimes after driving. Just kinda living with it until I stop being lazy and replace it.

If you leave it on auto when you turn the car off it could cause this. I never had this issue.

Mine starts high but then lowers itself. I thought this was normal as the car is trying to reach the desired temperature you have set (rapidly cool or heat the interior).

Just turn on the ac by clicking either the fan button or pressing the round adjustment knob, one or both of these methods will activate the fan level at the same as previous use.

I know that if you have the front defrost on the fan will do that. Not 100% about auto, but it might.

auto varies your fan speed relevant to your outside vs inside temp and what your AC temp is set at

if it's hot outside 80+ and you left it on auto at 62 degress, and cabin temp is 80+ it will blow at max until cabin temp gets to 62 and it will lower

at 72-75 on auto fan speed is typically around 4-5 assuming cabin temp is already there,
if it's 20 degrees saturday morning when you start the car, it will blow 10 until it heats up to 72 and gradually takes downs

mine does this too. i like running with the defrosters on, with out AC so the air isn't blowing in my face. Every time I start the car the fan is on 11...pretty annoying. Wish it would just start on where i left it when i shut the car offf.

German cars have always thought the world was ending when you turn on the defroster for some reason. The worst was in my Mini, where the defroster would turn itself off if you went below the max fan speed. At least you can turn this back down from 11 but still have defrost.

This is what mine does, at least when cold.

That's terrible! Makes me feel better about the fact that my seat heaters force the AC on every time I toggle them. :(

When I first had my car I did this too. But, I got tired of the "this thing goes to 11" mentality of the fan. Now I just put it in "manual defrost" mode using the vent selector (or whatever it's called) and set my fan speed and done. I probably don't even need to use the defrost button ever since I can just turn on the AC, but it's an option if I need it.

whoa say that again? there's a manual defrost mode and can get around this annoying fan speed? The only settings i use is the defrost button, with or without AC and the auto button. there's a way to turn defrost on without hitting the defrost button?

Probably just a different way of using the controls. I suspect AUTO will defeat anything you set but...

    https://www.audiusa.com/content/dam/...tart-guide.pdf

Go to page 16 (page 25 in the physical manual) Automatic Climate Control. In the gray section in the middle is tells you about one of the buttons: Airflow. It reads: The airflow selector directs air to the floor, panel or defrost vents, or a combination. Boom!
