Opinions: return to stock or sell with mods?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
For a private sale, not trade in...

    I've got all stock parts:

    AWE DPs
    Capristo exhaust
    Forza FOB valve controller
    Bilstein PSS9s
JHM short shifter (maybe leave it?)
    volk ZE40

Maybe it matters? Car has 28k miles...

i'm thinking lower mileage stock might appeal to more buyers more than (what i consider tasteful :)) mods?

Pretty sure it's always better to sell the wheels separately since wheels are such a personal taste.

I would definitely leave the PSS9 coilovers on, and maybe even the JHM SS. Everything else I would return to stock.

    Thanks guys -

    i'm assuming the logic is:

    PSS9s - DRC sucks anyway
shifter - uninstall sucks anyway (and resell is not great)
DPs - uninstall sucks anyway (and resell is probably not great)

judging by my PMs people really want to buy PSS9s :P

Yeah i guess i could always list it with the mods, i mean they are basically all reversible and i'm losing money on install in some cases no matter what. For the most part i've found that when optimizing for cash, it's better to sell the mods separate but when optimizing for time/energy, it's better to just try and sell with mods.

Wondering if people think miles matter? As in the car has pretty low miles so maybe stock is more preferred? i dunno.

Nope I missed the part of 28k miles. That I would definitely return to stock.

If it's that low kms it could very well be someone that just wants to keep it completely stock forever.

damn vultures.. Telling you to go stock so we can buy parts from you!

I mean, for that mileage its better to turn stock, almost a collectors type mileage for another garage queen owner.
Also interested in the Capristo as well. PM'd you

All seriousness, with that mileage its is definitely worth more as a stock time capsule. especially if you can find a nice, dry, revised DRC. The ride is just amazingly compliant with it, and how the Audi engineers envisioned this car. My rig just turned 99k so my boat is a bit different, although it is coming back pretty nicely from the verge of "beater" condition the PO put it into...

Another vote for returning to stock, but you can leave the coilovers and short-shifter. Though, I wouldn't even bother listing it as having a short shifter, it won't be a plus.

I say leave it as is, and include all the stock parts, and option to return to stock. The parts may appeal to a buyer, since I also agree, that they are tastefull mods.

I think this would be the hardest thing for me to swallow, as for the most part when you sell a modded car you lose your nuts on the cost of the mods but if you sell your mods separately you can get claw back a little...

I'd most likely look to sell local first honestly, especially the exhaust and coils since shipping is killer. Would you replace your JHM or put it on your red one? or just keep it for a rainy day? lol

Honestly wasn't my intention on turning it into a parting thread :) Was just curious if you guys thought there was a market for slightly modded cars or if the car (because of the miles and condition) would be better to return to stock. If i do take stuff off, i'll just start a thread in the classifieds

If i put it back to stock i'd hope for the right buyer around 40k but maybe i'm totally off base for where these cars are these days?

The volks are flawless, i even have five of them just in case :)

how fast do you need to sell it?

you could advertise it with mods, and create a clever advert that promotes the benefits of the mods

Whenver I'm looking to buy a car I will always target sensibly modded cars)

If you have no reasonable offers, then reconsider returning it to stock and then readvertising with a brand new advert.

It is hard to get 40K+ for a 9 years old car (high 30?). But it all depend many other things, may be you have an IBIS

yeah don't actually need to sell, i just don't drive it and have three other cars so i'd rather it get driven and appreciated.

Agreed i don't think i'd get above 40, but it is kind of the last of it's kind. I'm sure i don't need to tell anyone here :) Boring old Daytona, non ti.

As others have said: the extremely low mileage coupled with the desireable color means this car will sell at a premium, relatively speaking, if it is completely stock. The vast majority of buyers will much prefer the car in factory spec.

JHM is going to stay on black car; love it. Red car has Milltek; too quiet. Loved the sound of your Capristo, and it would really improve the red car.

For the rest of you, bshanna's car would be a great pick up for someone, modded or not.
