    RS7 Engine Bay Cooling

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi people, I have taken my RS7 to the track a few times and on two occasions I experienced issues as a result of too much heat build up in the engine bay (triggering sensors etc).. Doing a bit of a google I stumbled across the below vented hood which may help a bit, I'm also open to any other suggestions, thanks guys.

That one you referenced is also referenced in another thread, and someone said the vents are not functional. Just a heads up.

The bottom side of the hood appears to show an opening for the center vent, so maybe it does work, but its hard to say from the pictures.

Looks like the centre is vented yeah.

Even if the sides were vented it doesn't look like they would achieve much anyway.

I wonder if it is a copy and if so who originally designed and made this hood? It actually looks half decent, I'd probably just tell them to not produce the side "vents" for a cleaner look though.

Is your RS7 tuned or stock? Audi does a lot of track testing, so I'd be surprised a stock car would do this, unless there was a problem.

I'm not sure if this would help or not, but have you tried running without the engine cover?

I would advise against this. On the track the turbos are going to get very hot. Without the cover on, the underside of the hood is exposed to all that heat. This could bubble or crack the paint in that area of the hood.

There is an ambient temperature sensor under the passenger side of the engine cover which will read artificially low if you run without the cover. Part of the cooling fan's logic involves evacuating engine bay heat and this sensor is key to that.

Wouldn't it melt the cover if it was that hot and isn't the bonnet lined with thermal resistant material.

I thought if you were racing and had a lot of airflow anyway, this would help.

The reality is that these are not track cars....not even remotely close. They are luxury rockets. Most of the big power gains from tuning are targeting at single acceleration runs and/or passing power type of gains.

To take a tightly packed TT V8 and tune it, then run it on a track will need myriad of other changes to be done reliably. This is a thermal nightmare. Something like the AMS cooling kit (they make this for the S6/7, not sure about the RS7) , a larger oil cooler, a larger oil pan, a lower temp thermostat (may require ECU changes), use of water wetter solution are the types of things you would need to help at the track. A properly designed vented hood wouldn't hurt either.

Plus, these car are still basically land yachts on any kind of track/twisty roads. Get a different car for tight and sporty driving.
