Hi. I bought an used 04 s4 cluster to put into my 02 a4. I havent had a chance to install and adapt it yet. However I noticed the fuel gauge needle in the middle where i've seen the others for sale the needle is usually in the resting position. Does it mean the stepper on that needle might be bad? Or perhaps it was where the fuel level was when it was disassembled and should reset and function normally after I properly adapt it to my car?

While damage to the motor is always a possibility, it's highly unlikely and it was probably bumped during shipment. It will reset once you install/power it up. If not, it can be adjusted.
