Car difficult to turn on - clutch pedal sensor?

Hey guys - tried to search but alas....in order to start vehicle clutch needs to be pushed in of course. I am having increasing difficulty with the car sensing that the clutch is engaged. Sometimes I will need to push in clutch, try to start, take out clutch, repeat, a dozen times before it will start. No floor mat blocking movement. Thoughts? Thanks!

Have you tried pushing a bit harder? I was having the same issue when it was really cold and though it was similar to a cold start quirk I had in my B6. But as other threads suggested of having to push crazy hard on the clutch I tried adding a little extra pressure and sure enough the problem goes away.

I had this same issue a few months back. Kept saying "Press clutch to start vehicle." It ended up being a leaking slave cylinder and the pedal had to be readjusted and re-bled. About $300 in labor plus $150 for the slave and another $80 for the USP braided clutch line

Yeah wish mine was that easy...had the same symptoms needed a new clutch...it was toast. Funny thing was the car wasn't even slipping or having a hard time getting into gear. just the starting issue.

Yeah, this issue is unfortunate OP. More than likely, anywhere you take it is going to suggest pulling apart the transmission. There is one test they can do that will prove if its the master cylinder. If the Master passes this test, they will point straight at the clutch...

Had this happen to me 2 weeks ago. Was not pleased, especially since I replaced the clutch and flywheel. Had to push all the way to the floor and then some to start the car. Turned out it was the clutch master cylinder. It's fine now, but that was the straw that broke the camel's back with me. So, I traded it in for an S-tronic...

just saying...i dealt with these symptoms for over a year or so. bottom line, you prob need a new clutch/flywheel. Once replacing those, haven't had an issue since. (knock on wood)
