    Question custom two-toned interior question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I've come up with this (stupid) idea where I've decided I want to have a proper two toned interior in my B7 avant. I have the silver alcantara / black seats and the brushed aluminum trim. I recently saw a B5 with the precursor to that interior and the leather in his door cards were silver alcantara too. Looks absolutely awesome. Why Audi didn't do this on the B6 B7 is just wrong.

I've done a bunch of searches and haven't found any B7 door cards in the same alcantara, I don't believe they were ever made. Have any of you guys seen or done or got pics of a penguin interior with matching door cards on a B6 B7, what about using the leather section from the grey or beige A4?

Otherwise as I see it I have only a couple options:

    1. Have the door cards re-upholstered in the matching alcantara - turns out colour matching the audi silver alcantara is a problem for a lot of places, material is hard to come by apparently, read impossible. So maybe I have them done in the closest possible colour alcantara? I'm guessing $$$$
    2. Since the right colour alcantara won't be available maybe just a light coloured leather would work, if that's the case, would the door cards from a car with the grey or beige interior work? has anyone done this? This might be $$
    3. Have my interior completely redone so it properly matches. My seats are still in great condition so I'm saving this custom work for a later date, that and $$$$$$

    Any other ideas? Opinions

    Pic for context:

I'd love something like this RS4:

I had the same interior as you on my S4, and know finding a match to the alcantara can be difficult. After visiting a few different auto upholsters I found a very very close match, say 99%. Its helpful if you take a sample swatch and lay it against you freshly cleaned seats.

If you didn't know the best way to clean them is with a Mr.Clean magic eraser. Yes the seats will become pillowy with alcantara bits during this process but a quick run over with a fabric shaver (can be found at most major department stores ie. Target, Walmart, ect) solves this issue and leaves them looking good as new.

I like the idea of doing the door cards and perhaps also the center-arm rest and shift boot. They usually have to order the martial by the yard, so use it to your advantage. Although the stuff isn't cheap. Below is the best picture I could find of an Oreo interior in a B7. Good luck on your quest.

You can't match Alcantara material, see my thread here: At best you can find a reasonable facsimile and decide whether it's good enough for your purposes. Try swatches from Gulf Fabric, UK Hide and Capitol Seating. Redoing your whole interior seems extreme and after market fabric won't approach the luster of the original. Check out how the nap changes shade from different angles. After market fabric won't do that. FWIW the original fabric color is called Pearl Silver.

Since it's the door card, you could try a fabric paint matched to Pearl Silver. Granted, not the same effect as suede leather, but may project the continuation of the theme.

I don't think I'd bother trying to paint, sounds like a recipe for disaster. I think my best bet might be the grey or beige leather inserts from the A4, anyone tried this or have a feel of how close those colours are to the silver alcantara?

If you redo it all, I'll buy the pass seat base since the PO's EZPass fell on the seat and melted to the alcantara...cleaning it off left it madded.
