    Excessive Fuel consumption

    Hi Everyone.*

I purchased a*2012*A6*3.0T w/ 48,000km (@ 30,000miles) on it about 2 months ago. I'm not getting anywhere near the fuel economy that the statistics claim I should get. I've put on about 2000km (4 Tanks of gas) on the car and by best rating was 14L/100km - I would say 70% City / 30% Hwy driving. That is about 16.5 miles per US Gallon. My best was a hwy run with the cruise control set to 100km/h (60mph) and could not get better than 10L/100km (23mpg) - Is there anything that anyone else has done to improve the fuel economy? I will admit that I was driving rather enthusiastically for the first few hundred km's -- but since had a mission to improve the economy. As I said, my best tank was 14L/100KM - 16.5mpg. Should I try some*fuel*injector*cleaner? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh - Running premium unleaded 91/92 octane. Tried Chevron/Esso and Shell - all tier 1.

Have you checked your tire pressure?

Change you air filter and remove any debris from the air box. Then using a VCDS cable, clear your 01 Engine fault codes even if there are non shown. This resets all of the engines learned settings.

Yeah, the 3.0T isn't really known for it's fuel economy. You might want the VW software engineers to modify the ECU. I hear they can improve your gas mileage with a little tuning.

I just bought mine 3 weeks ago (2013 3.0T), and I've averaged 24 mpg in mixed driving to and from work. I'm fairly light footed 98% of the time. When I drove it home from OH to WI, I (and this is hard even for me to believe) averaged 29 mpg on the drive home, with the cruise set at about 78. No BS.
