How do I get rid of this shifter squeaking?

My shifter squeaks when switching gears. On my B5's I was able to just lubricate the ball. On this car, I can't even seem to get at it. I pulled the shift boot up and then moved the other rubber boot out of the way and all I could see down there was a flat, white plate going around the rod. There's hardly any threads on this.......anyone know what to do?

Mine does the same thing, I was going to mention it next time into the dealer, I'll keep an eye on this to see if you find a resolution

Look in my build thread and you'll see pics of how to get to the ball on the stock shifter. You're prolly right as in you just need to add some lithium white grease to it.
