Possible to see if my car is flashed or has a chip soldered on??

Without having to take a part the ecu??

Just curious. I know it's had the same tune since about 2002. Haha

I think by then they were flashing the tune. But I'm just curious.

    I would bet it's chipped.

I know it's "chipped" but I want to know if they actually soldered the chip to the ecu or flashed it.

I'm trying to avoid having to take it out.

That's exactly what it means. "Chipped" means a physically different chip than stock.

Flash is exactly that. A file flashed onto the stock ECU. Just open it up to find out

If it's chipped you can no longer flash it.

Maybe that's that he's wondering for

My ECU has a new chip soldered on it. Was still able to flash a new file.

I think it's the ones with adapter boards that cannot be flashed.

If it's from 2002 then I'm pretty sure it has a Chip, not the stock EEPROM flashed.

Exactly. I'm under the impression that if it has a chip soldered to the ecu then I need to buy a stock ecu and have it flashed if I want to change programs.

Yes I belive that is correct. If it's chipped I don't think it would allow you to read or write on the ECU.

    I could be wrong though.

I belive the only way to know 100% is to open it. Or try to flash it.

99% it's an actual soldered on chip. Just open it up and see. Or you could try doing a full read with a cable and nef that should tell you pretty quick

Maybe some of these shops who offer tunes may have an oem chip that could offer if you purchase the tune. Reach out to VLM Spec and speak with Jared if you are considering re-tuning.

Daz is a wizard though. Mere mortals should not attempt such things.
