    Tips on pulling injectors?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am going to have the fuel injectors cleaned and flow tested since I have to swap the fuel pressure relief valves. I've already taken the supercharger off. How easily do the injectors come out once everything is unbolted? Don't want to damage the fuel rail on the process.

It's a blast removing the sc by myself! (In the driveway, having to wait for rain to stop, with a head lamps...)

Difficulty of removing the injectors seems to vary between cars. All of mine but one pulled out pretty easy. That one had a layer of carbon that worked its way into the injector port. If you have any that stick, SOAK them really well in PB blaster and let it sit for a few hours. In fact you might just soak all of them overnight before you start to pull them.

Some of the guys that have broken their injectors while pulling might have some advice to offer from lessons learned. On stuck injectors I think twisting while simultaneously pulling upward is a good bet.

I'll give that a shot. I see people using injectors pullers. That something we can use for the RS injectors?

There is a factory slide hammer that slips into the groove on the top of the injector plastics. One of mine was super seized and I had to use a vice-grip slide hammer on the metal portion to get it out. Tried soaking it overnight with no success, it's the small teflon piece at the bottom that gets stuck. All other 7 slipped out without an issue.

I use a flat head screwdriver to push the injectors up. Stick the end between the head and the injector where the angled part of the injector is for the electrical connector. Then pry up gently while wiggling the injector side to side with my other hand.

They have an injector removal and install kit for this. You'll have to remove the fuel rail tho and remove each injector one by one. They also provide tools to install new seals and everything.

I sprayed a little liquid wrench this morning and this afternoon I the injectors just pulled out with no issues. When I took the fuel rail off, two of each side came with the rail. Two remained in. I slowly turned and pulled up, came out with no issues.

    That look pretty dirty.

I'd replace the high pressure rail sensor while you are in there.

Not sure if you already have but get the injector seal kit too. It comes with seals and new locking tabs.

That was what I was hoping.

Suggestions for cleaning the fuel rail?

That shouldn't be necessary unless you damaged them during removal. I reused mine with no problem. Did you electrical connector tabs survive? I broke 2 or 3 of the brittle pieces of shit. They are currently zip tied so I gotta replace the electrical connectors next time I go in for a carbon clean.

No damage to the holders. Should I take those off before bringing the injectors to the shop? I broke two of the tabs lol Once I realized how easy they break, I took my time on the second set.

when you pulled the injectors, there was some dirt in the port. How did you clean them? I tried to vacuum some of it out and careful used a pick while applying suction. It's relatively clean.

I left the clips on mine, but it would probably make the job easier for the shop cleaning them if you removed the clips.

I used a very small attachment on my shop vac to get the dirt out of the ports. I also used brake cleaner to get the thin layer of carbon in 1 or 2 of the ports.

Brought my injectors to the shop. They said they do not have the Teflon sleeves. They'll replace the filter and o-ring though.

Wonder if i can source just the sleeves?

gesTTalt: He said he gets them from Europe. He wasn't more specific than that haha. He said they're the same for most direct injection injectors. I'm guessing he gets them direct from ASNU. They have a part number "ASNU 265 White 3mm Teflon Seal", catalog here: http://www.asnu.com/downloads/catalogue.machines.pdf . I have no idea how to actually order those, but you might have to be an ASNU dealer. If the shop has an ASNU machine they might know more on how to order from them.

If you shop doesn't normally work with direct injectors, they might need the tools to install that seal: "ASNU266 Seal Fitting Cone ASNU266T Seal Compression Tool For use with ASNU 265"

He also said the seals are $3.95 each plus shipping.

Thanks for the lead! Gotta figure out what I need to do. I can scavenger around to see if I can get the shop to find them or buy the entire rebuild kit. That'll give me new clips and everything. That's more $$. Damn
