Brand new car, 700 miles. Have a call into AOA but not thinking a full respray is going to be an acceptable resolution. Just thought I'd see if anyone else is dealing with a lackluster paint job on their bumpers or elsewhere.

Either the robot at the factory was drunk or that thing was repaired and painted.

It was brand new and clearly I should have crawled around on my hands and knees to inspect but I'm guessing it was a sprayer issue at the factory. It doesn't appear to be a respray as I don't see any drips, overspray, dirt particle under paint, tape lines, etc. I'm not sure I want the body shop messing with it and repainting. Can you even get a fully painted bumper from the factory??

i understand the car was brand new but ive been working for audi for almost 10 years now and have never seen that on any pdi nor have we had one in the shop and we sell over 100 new cars a month. that really looks like the front bumper was replaced and and painted. Transportation damage happens some times , honestly not sure if they have to tell you it was replaced ( only work on them don't sell them)

our body shop is a certified ferrari , lambo , bently rolls royce your name it body shop. they do awesome work to where you can not tell and i have seen under side of bumpers near edges look like that.

if you have dirt under a paint job they are painting it outside lol and not in a paint booth

If it was replaced the bumper wouldn't be on the car to be painted .meaning no tape lines no over spray. also it take all of 15 min to pull that front bumper

ive been working in a rail yard where they unload cars, and there are lots of cars that come in damaged, graffiti, broken windows, damaged bumpers, ect!
I would definitely take it straight back to the dealer!

I'm pretty pissed off and to be honest I don't even want the car at this point. If it left the factory that way, shame on Audi, if it left the dealer with a terrible respray there will be hell to pay!!!

That looks similar to what I saw on "new" White GTI's when I was helping a friend car shop at dealers a few months ago. White overspray like that was all over trim and body panels, apparently cars at dealers get sprayed pretty carelessly on-site. This is 3rd party information I've heard, so I do not know. But that doesn't look like a factory job. But what do I know? I'd be just as pissed as you and furious. Because this would be a month long process to get rectified.

with 700 miles id be pissed and wanting something in return along with a repainted front bumper. no audi should have a bumper like that. might have happened in delivery and dealer did a quick cover up, I've heard of that happening before but never looked that shitty

I'm calling their body shop first thing tomorrow and having them check my VIN for paintwork then calling the GM directly. I'd prefer to have the car replaced as I would have never bought it had I discovered it on delivery. I'm sure they're going to tell me to kick rocks and offer to repaint it but if this is the job they did the first time, I'm not sure they have the skill set to get it right. I know it sounds silly to replace a car for the bumper, but I don't want some half ass paint job that will look like crap in 2-3 years. They are never as good as the factory. Robots > the paint guy who can't even see that he didn't complete the job.

The gms I've met will do anything to keep the customer happy, especially if you just bought a car from them. If nothing comes up when you check vin then I would request a replacement but typically gms will literally do anything to keep you happy. Maybe ask for an s-line bumper to replace the shit bumper you have. I've seen it done before. Good luck

That's a bit much the bumper just needs resprayed if that is the underside of the bumper don't lower that car or it will look worse.......if you keep it. :/

It's the inside of the lower air dam and also the creases on the front of the bumper. The underside looks fine but what a terrible respray. I mean if they didn't do it right the first time, pretty sure it's going to be the same result.

you can have them do the respray at a shop of your choice on their dime. That is a more reasonable request than replacing the car. Definitely use this to jump to S-Line and maybe they will give you some other freebie upgrades if you ask politely. Remember going in there guns blazing will not get your way. Best to take a firm but polite approach to let people know you mean business and not to be messed with, but are reasonable. I will bend over backwards for a polite (not to the point of being a pushover polite) customer but as soon as they get rude they get nothing.

So Audi's body shop just called and said they never painted the bumper, so the only thing that is left is that it was painted at port?? Or came that way from the factory? Looks like I'm going to have to deal with a respray which I am NOT pleased about but going to speak with the GM of the dealership today.

From working in the industry, I think the guys that claim shipping damage hit the nail on the head.

Maybe pull the fog light grilles to see if they were removed when it was repainted?

Dealer is offering to respray entire bumper at Audi's expense of course. Body shop says that it's a factory error from their opinion and they didn't paint it. They said it could have been done at port, but not sure. They had a 2015 Monsoon Gray A4 that showed same issues as mine but less pronounced in the same areas. Thinking I'll see if Audi will authorize future respray and leave it for now. Thoughts?? Unless you really are on your hands and knees you can't see it.

VW had a very similar issue to this upon the release of the MK7 GTI. Some of the wheels weren't properly painted and you could see black over spray instead of proper paint coverage, much like your bumper. Numerous people had this issue, and each one of them, to my knowledge, was given a brand new set of OEM wheels by VW to replace the ones that were poorly painted. I'm sure Audi will work with you on this issue too.

Not using it for a future touch up, I'm just not sure I want to have them mess it up any more than it is today but would like to reserve the option to have it corrected later. I just don't know if I trust it to look if they respray it.

Audi will pay to have it professionally done. They won't sit on it though. In my opinion, it's a brand new car get the bumper professionally done and it'll look proper. I would trust a professional paint shop all day. Whoever did it initially was covering up prolly a scratch or something done in shipping with no dealer knowledge of it.

I wouldn't wait though get that done asap. If you wait Audi could use that as an excuse to not paint it at all cus of the wear

Port fix for sure. Get it resprayed and have the dealer compensate you for your inconvenience. Tell them that you'd love to be able to tell your fellow Audizine enthusiasts what outstanding service you received how they when above and beyond to gain a customer for life...

Personally, I'd get the front bumper sprayed and then have them clear bra the bumper. I'm certain you could negotiate free window tint and or a deal on Audi Care, etc..

Either way no way the car should have never passed PDI with a bumper like that. Good luck!

This is why its damage that probably was NOT done/repaired at port. any tech would have told his advisor who then would have filed a claim and had it fixed immediately.. most likely lot damage.

Well the OP said the dealer claims the damage wasn't done on the lot and there bodyshop didn't touch the car. So at best we are all guessing...

More than likely the tech didn't care and did a quick once over the vehcile and gave it a thumbs up.

GM thought it was factory or port fix. Either way they standing behind it and even though the thought of having the bumper done doesn't sit well with me, I'll probably just do it to be done with it all. Still a huge hassle to deal with already though.
