Difficulty engaging first gear when engine/transmission is cold.

This is an annoyance more than anything but I find its extremely difficult to engage first gear in my RS4 when the engine and transmission are both cold. After driving for a few minutes and the oil temperature increases, the issue appears to ease and there's no longer a problem. Is this normal/expected? Can anything be done to alleviate the issue eg transmission oil change?

Try changing fluid to redline or Motul and give that a try. Also make sure you use other gears to try and engage synchros and then go back to first.

OK, will try this and see if it helps.

also, before shifting into either 1st, or reverse, shift into 3rd first. also, the motul gear 300 should help.

I haven't had any issues with my RS4, however my s4's transmission hated life when it was chilly out. Usually 3rd->2nd->1st helped it go in easier. Might just need a fluid change.

My 2006 B7 S4 had no such issues, hence why I'm surprised to come across it in the RS4. Anyway, I will get the transmission fluid changed the next time I have a few hours to spare and can take it into the shop (I don't have the means or time to do it myself as much as I'd like to).
