Cat back or Turbo back. I am willing to purchase either a HFC or TP separate.

I would try to find a shop that would budget your needs. Y pipe to 2.5" and 3" tp and dp would be the way to go if i had time to fabricate. I went with the europaparts cat back and 034 tp

Buy a used JHM/FI cat-back and bite the bullet on a new JHM y-pipe. You can likely get it for around $1200 and you likely won't find anything g better.

Buy the jhm HFC and dp (necked down to stock size) and then buy a used B6 S4 catback exhaust (even OEM). All up should be less than $1000 USD

How much do a custom exhaust setup usually run at? Compared to for example Europaparts bolt on system?

I picked up a used Milltek cat back system for $400 and super happy with it.

This! But got a TP instead. New JHM TP-DP, $700 plus used B6 S4 CB for $60. And installed them myself.

I never really liked the idea of using the s4 rear section. With turbo cars you want the least amount of back pressure after the turbo but with a NA car you want back pressure to make tq. Then you go and put a exhaust for a NA car on that's meant to have back pressure, doesn't make sense.

Not sure where people got that custom was cheaper? The materials alone for my exhaust were more then half of what most sell for and then add about 12hours of labor it took to fabricate it. Sure you can get some muffler shop to make one cheap but it will never be the same quality as most of the pre made ones for our cars.

    Question: Best exhaust under $1000

^^ pretty sure the S4 dp back flows more than an oem A4 dp back. 2 x 2.25 > 2 x ~1.75 and I really doubt the mufflers are made to create back pressure.

I went that way because I wanted more flow, an oem exhaust (because we can het a ticket here for non-orm) and no drone/loud exhaust.

    This.

If the flow is enough for an S4, it should be plenty enough for a tuned A4. Plus $60 is < $1100!!!

    And no drone/loud exhaust...

    For now, I'm satisfied...

sure it flows more then stock, stock is almost as thin as a toothpick but S4 exhaust vs quality aftermarket the aftermarket exhaust is going to flow way better. Click the link below if you want to learn more about NA exhaust and back pressure. for turbo cars the best exhaust is no exhaust, you want as little restriction after the turbo as possible, that's not always ideal though. funny thing about drone is besides 100% stock exhaust system i had the least amount of drone when i was straight piped, it didnt sound the greatest and was too loud but had the least amount of drone out of the 4-5 exhaust setups ive built. If i had to buy an aftermarket exhaust I'd probably go with the stasis/EuropaParts exhaust its cheap and sounds the best IMO.

I'm pretty sure our system is the best bang for the buck and you'll be well under $1,000.00. Between STaSIS and our system they are hands down the most popular choice as we have literally sold hundreds. They are in stock and ship the same day.

    • Power increase will be in the 10 - 15 TQ/HP range.
    • An aggressive yet drone free tone will give your vehicle a sporty sound which is sure to turn heads when you press the pedal to the metal.
    • Mandrel bent T-304 stainless steel.
    • Laser engraved Europaparts logo.
    • Note: The tiptronic exhaust system does not include a downpipe.

^^This with an hfc/test pipe is probably the best cost effective vs quality route.

As I mentionned above, I went oem S4 dp back because of the police in my area... I previously had an aftermarket (custom). If you're curious click here : Clicky click

I was just mentionning the oem S4 dp back will flow better than an oem A4 even if they have crush bends. For someone on a budget, or someone who wants more flow but not more noise, its a great alternative.

Hfc's give a deeper tone and it doesnt give you that Skidoo smell at red lights. For the little gain a test pipe will give, I dont see the benefit. But to each their own hence why I said hfc/test pipe :)

From your picture it seems the flex pipe sits higher on the dp which is the another plus

I like that "skiddo" smell at red lights.

I +1 on the stasis being cheapest and best bang for your buck.

This. People serious up don't quite get that. Plus you're just guessing at what muffler designs are going to sound best with our engine and how much drone you're going to have.

An off the shelf system is almost always going to be a better bet unless you have some crazy setup or want something super custom.

    fluid dynamics.

Same for intakes, NA with ported intakes can help , but if it's too big you'll decrease air speed, so the power. air flow and air speed are important on NA engines since you only have around 14.6 psi .

    Thanks for the support guys!

We ran a 12.5 with a stock S4 system mated with our downpipe-Y and test pipe. If you are on a budget and/or looking for an OEM + style exhaust system you really can't beat it because the performance is there and you get a bump in sound.

See the end of the video for the 12.5 run with stock s4 cat back.

+1 on the europa parts exhaust. good company to work with, great quality, good sound. For $900 you have a full exhaust with a downpipe. I am looking to go this route very soon

Not for tiptronic, it does not come with a downpipe. As far as I know the only downpipe for tiptronic that hasn't had a ton of issues is the jhm, but of course if you go with the jhm you either have to modify it to work with the exhaust from europa or buy an s4 exhaust.

    Nobody cares about the tip!

Also I've not heard of any issues with the TT downpipe I don't think. Brett had zero issues with his on his b6 which is pretty damn similar fitment.

I have a brand new Milltek resonated catback sitting here - I'd have to ship it, but I can probably make the numbers work for you. Great quality, great sound - can't go wrong.

Also I've not heard of any issues with the TT downpipe I don't think. Brett had zero issues with his on his b6 which is pretty damn similar fitment.
I also have the TT DP for ~30k and haven't had a single problem with it.
