Looking for a DIY on downpipe R&R for b6 3.0

Hey everybody! I'm going to order the jhm catless downpipe within the next couple if weeks. Shops will charge 5 hours a downpipe because with an auto transmission you need to drop the subframes, but I heard with a manual tranny you can squeeze out the downpipes without dropping the subframes (correct me if I'm wrong). So I was planning on doing it myself and just wanted to see if there was a write-up or someone who's done it before to give me some advice, I'd appreciate it a bunch!

FWIW, the car needs to be pretty high in the air. The top bolt on the DP is hard to get to, but with an angled ratchet style wrench, its not bad. You can also use a pass through socket to get to it too. The passenger side requires the removal of the SAI plumbing so that you can get to the top nut. Other than that, its straightforward. Not a fun job by any means. Add in an auto transmission and its gets much tighter. I think in 5 hours I could have both out and new ones installed on my 6 speed. 10 hours (1+ day) is too much for DP installation.

I've removed my driver side downpipe without dropping the subframe. You will need to support the back of the trans and remove the crossmember. Should be much easier to install without the damn cat in the way. There is a thread here for 3.0's looking to get downpipes for a reasonable price, check that out and see if you're interested.

I'm planning on taking my downpipes off this weekend. I'll try to take some good pics and maybe put together a diy.

I bought some B6 S4 downpipes that I'll be modifying to fit the 3.0 exhaust manifolds. I posted some pics of them here. The flanges are the same and just need to be welded in the correct position.
