so i made it out to tahoe and back this past weekend. just a little background info - i grew up in the northeast and have had my share of winter driving, but this is my first time in the white stuff in an awd SUV.
i headed out late evening on friday and cut south on hwy 50 towards south tahoe. it was mostly rain until we got up past 5k ft on the mountains. then it became a wintry mix with some slush on the ground. the roads get a bit windy once you start climbing some hills. the car with the dws06 on them felt great in these conditions and more! i didn't go at it that hard b/c it was getting late and temps were dropping, but at no time did i ever feel out of control. fwiw, i had 3 passengers with me, a trunk full of stuff, and gear in my roof-mounted thule box.
sat afternoon, the snow started coming down at a decent clip. i went out to fill the tank sat night, and to romp around in the snow a bit. in sports mode, stomping on the gas, accelerating out of turns, etc., i could hardly break the car loose. the snow wasn't quite accumulating, but it was definitely slushy out. sunday morning, there was some accumulation on the ground where they hadn't shoveled yet. moving the car around on the driveway with 6" of wet sloppy snow was not an issue. i FINALLY got the car to fishtail a little bit coming around one turn where they hadn't shoveled, but even then, it was a very controlled mini-drift of the rear wheels.
all in all, i'm really happy with the dws06. the snow and wet traction definitely gives me a lot of confidence in inclement weather. i don't have much to compare them to, but i certainly wouldn't hesitate to buy them again based on my experience with them thus far. i actually really liked how the goodyear excellences (that came stock with the v-spokes) felt, but i had no interest in seeing how they perform in snow, so i got rid of them.
