2008 A4: Brrrrrp Noise From Under Dash Help

2008 A4 2.0T - I have had this intermiitent noise coming from under my dash for a couple of years. It will come and go - sometimes everytime I start the car and sometimes gone for weeks. I thought it was related to colder weather, but I really cannot make a temperature connection. However, I think it occurs more often in the fall and spring type of temperatures (40's to 50's).

The sound is like a damper solenoid motor gear slipping when it tries to activate the damper (just a guess). It sounds like the plastic gear teeth are slipping - brrrrrrp, brrrrrp. So it will do that a few times and then have a prolonged brrr--rrrrp for several seconds. Not a big deal, but really annoying. It went away for a long time, so I forgot about it until the cooler temps returned a few months ago. I climbed under the passenger dash as it was burping and think I located the "box" it is coming from. There are two "boxes" on the passenger side just forward of the transmission tunnel console. I could not tell which one it was coming from, but it feels like it is one of those areas. Oh an another thing - it continues with the ignition off! Weird, eh?

Has anyone experienced this before? Can you lend some assistance as to a fix? Would really appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks!

    Scott

My 2008 does the same thing and I also assume it is a damper in the climate control system as it only happens after running the heat or AC.
Does not really bother me and I don't have a fix to offer, but am curious if this is "working as designed".

Could be. Hard to pinpoint the noise/vibration. Would love to be able to fix this issue.

Maybe try turning your climate control off before you shut your car off. See if it makes the noise the next time you start it.

Update .... it's been warmer the past few days and I noticed the sound occurs when the car is shut off even if I have not turned on the heat.
My sound is a low "brriiip" that repeats a few times and then stops. Seems like a damper or mixing flap trying to close.

Is it a vrrrrrrclick or a zshzshzshclunk?

Pretty sure those noises are normal. Like some mentioned, it's the comfort control doing its thing. You must've driven Japanese before this.

LOL .... yes .... variety of noises like all of the above.

As mentioned in one of my previous posts, it does not concern me and is just a curiosity.
And you are correct ..... it's my first German car ....
