Fore those running 265/275 tires !

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is there a significant advantage performance wise to run a larger tire than a 255 ?
Can you really feel more grip, even less understeer ?
A lot of guys seems to run larger tires for looks !
I got new wheels, 19x9.5 i am ok with the look of a 255 on it but if a larger tire really improve the the performance, that's gonna be my choice.
    Thanks

I mostly run the 275's so it fills out the fenders more. Don't track the car but to date have no issues with it, and several sets later. Go big my friend! :)

definitely for looks in my case.

I run the 275 Goodyear Asymmetrics and they also have very large rim protectors, which make them look like massive 285s from the rear

275 vs 255 was a huge difference on my Supercharged RS4 in terms of spinning tires endlessly in 1st & 2nd or actually getting some grip.

Definitely go 275 on a 9.5 wheel. Use that extra rim width to your advantage, more grip

I think a lot of people run 275/30. If you're set on a 265 width I would go with a 35 profile. 275/30 is already a really short sidewall.

275/30/19 on Michilen PSS. Really like the amount of grip the car has in corners, very predictable, still you can find the limit right when the car starts to understeer. Probably should play with the settings on the shocks some. Spins tire pretty easy in first still, and second on a hard shift.

I would like a 265/35/19, the roads are so bad here, i am not sure about 30 sidewall.
Still at stock Height and the 35 would fill the fenders a bit more.

BUT i run Pss on my cars for the last 5 years. I spoke with Michelin Rep this afternoon and he told me than PSS in 265/35 was not recomanded for my car !!! There was specialy made for Mercedes, Porsche, and Cadillac ? He was not concern about fitment but these were not appropriate for Audi ??? What's that

That's interesting, all the 265/35/19 PSS on tirerack are BMW, Merc, or Porsche specific. I'm not sure what that's about, but there's another member here(ven0m) running PSS in 275/35/19 on stock suspension without rubbing except during hard corning on the track. My next set of street tires will be in those dimensions as I really like the wheel protection it provides.

is anyone running a 275/30/19 on a STOCK wheel? according to michelin minimum wheel width is a 9.5" so I'm curious what they look like. - I feel like the 255/35s are slightly stretched and definitely don't protect the wheel or sit square.

I ran 265/35/19 PSS's for awhile while lowered on H&R's, they did rub quite a bit on any less-than perfect type roads.

Yes I have seen it done a lot. The 275/30/19 Michelin PSS tires have a rim width range of 9-10 inches according to tirerack so that is fine. Stock RS4 wheels are decent weight wise too at like 26ish pounds.

Well the reality is I'd want to go to a 285/30 which is nearly identical in height to the 255/35 but that seems like it might be a bit too wide - If I buy wheels I'm going to step up to 20s anyway, and then use the 19s for track duty.

When I compare the two sets, the grip of the 275 Michelin is unbelievable.

Have a decent photo you can share? I've put 355s under my GT-R so I'm fine push the limits of tire size... I'd really prefer the 285/30 but 275/30 seems to be a bit easier to fit, slightly shorter than stock, while 20mm wider.

Though with the spacers on I did have a tiny bit of rubbing that was taken care of by rolling the front fenders.

I used to run those, and good feel but I kept blowing out the side-walls, and/or de-laminating the steel belts inside the sidewalls.

Yeah, I might have had bad luck. Must have had 4 sets or more and probably had do warranty 25% of them... And always a bummer to me as I liked them. However maybe my setup combined with too high tire pressure caused it... Tend to be at around 42psi to give the sidewalls some help as these are not as stiff as some. On my other car, a BMW (same size 275/30/19), I never had issues with them though and still run them.

Installed the ECS 10mm spacers all around on stock wheels / tires last summer, and have noticed a wee bit of rub. If I move up to 275/30/19 PSS, will it exhibit more or less rubbing?

I'm on my 3rd set PSSs on stock wheels with no issue.

Almost certain quite a bit more, at least front. I am on DWS-06 275/stock 19's and I had to loose my 8mm spacer in front, with fender screw removed, unrolled fenders. The PSS are wider so thinking you would have an issue. However, I am slightly lowered on coils to make my case worse. Back, I am thinking you are fine. Hope that helps. Quite a lot of input on the subject if you look around as we all try to pack as much in as we can.

Roll your fronts. Should be 50-100 bucks well spent!! Just make sure your fender roller is legit.
