Would you buy TDI Q5 now? 3-8-16

    Hi All,

Thanks to this forum I have read back pages re: current TDI issues and forthcoming possible scenarios of recall/buyback/fix

A local dealer has an '14 TDI white color with brown interior I think it's the premium plus. Priced at 37K with 52k miles. Because of current status the Q5 can't be CPO which does give only limited warranty per dealer.

I drove the vehicle and really liked it, however the sales associate was not correct with some of his answers to my questions regarding current TDI status. It was obvious he either wasn't informed or was outright fibbing. No Matter- this is what sales types do....

I spoke at length with a sales manager and said given the current limbo status of the vehicle I was probably not going to go forward with the purchase; and this was too bad as I did like the unit in question. I then told him that after certain deadlines it may become apparent to either buy or not based on Audi/US fed responses. It may take quite some time from what I can tell.

Given all this, would you encourage or discourage the purchase of this model at this time? I suspect they might drop the price further- but I doubt very much more. Potential headache down the road?

Or do you trust Audi-Feds to get #@it together to the benefit of owners any time in the next year (or two)...

    Cheers,
    RW

I won't touch a TDI old or new for years. VW/Audi has not done anything to make up for the $ damages their software caused past and current TDI's owners! The dealer needs to dump these things and they will say anything to do so. Caution....

    Yup!
Love my deck. Agreed no one likes a liar (Audi) and the brand has taken a bit of a hit, but I wouldn't be surprised if we've been shown a small piece to a much bigger puzzle. In a year from now I think this will be a much smaller deal than it is now.

where else would you go for a luxury vehicle if you were to switch? I bet you BMW and M-B have similar systems which are unfound.

I guess x3 or x5 option- or Q5 2.0 or 3.0 if one comes up.

Driving the TDI was quite a revelation and mpg seems quite a bonus.

37k for a car with 52,000 miles no way and i dont care if its TDI. that just seems way overpriced. I bought my last S4 (B8) for 35k and it had 30,000 miles on it.

I know that in general (especially tax considerations) car prices are quite different in the USA than in Canada. I wouldn't be able to comment on the deal you are looking at because I don't know what the market price is for that car where you live.

When it comes to the platform in general, my comments still stand ^ its a great platform, very versatile and still feels very sporty with the good fuel economy (best of both worlds). Yes, the scandal VW-VAG presented puts a lot of people in a very similar circumstance to you. Its very possible the list price per unit will drop if there is a sh!tty resolution to the problem. I can't imagine how much money is probably being thrown at this emissions scandal at the corporate level, which I'm sure they will want back over the next 6 years by raising the price of all vehicles a couple hundred dollars respectively. I really don't know this for sure but can only assume.

At the end of the day wait if you don't feel comfortable until you are ok with the purchase. It is expensive. I'm sure you'll like the torque though coming from the B8 S4. Audi has been great with the customer service and the compensations so far during this ordeal. But at the end of the day it is a crap shoot until the damage can be sorted out.

The prices are low right now. I'd buy another one.

Plan to buy mine out when the lease ends this summer. Was only interested in the Q5 because of the TDI engine.

For those who are planning to purchase a TDI during the scandal. Would you have issue registering the car in your state?
