Cheapest way to increase rotor size?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well this time has come for me to change my brakes as my rotor are pretty warped. I've been looking around to see what's out there as far as brake upgrades go, but i'd rather not spend a ton.

Out of all the aspects of this car Audi really seemed to neglect the brakes.

Does anybody know of a cheap way of increasing rotor diameter on this car? 345mm is a bit small considering the 3600lb weight. I don't think the caliper itself is really too much of an issue.

If you got bigger rotors you would need a bigger caliper also. Look at some of the big brake kits. I just ordered better pads, sta8nless steel lines, rotors, and racing fluid for my car and will see how that goes.

Well, I honestly haven't tried anything yet myself, but I know there are various pills and creams that are advertised to "increase size" and have seen things like pumps and such. No idea if any of them even work, but can't say I've never been curious...

    Wait..... misread subject.... scratch that!

Rotor diameter wont do much if the stock piston can only clamp so much. You are probably better off swapping the calipers to sq5 ones and keep the same rotor size.

Is the q5 caliper upgrade worth the money? Not sure who has done this or what the pad difference is

I went the Q5 Brembo route.
Dis some before & after 60-0 testing. The Q5 set up was around 0.2seconds quicker to stop.(testing done with P3Cars gauge)
Yellow stuff pads were used on both OE & Q5 set ups.

Not in my opinion, but it depends what your goal is. There is no increase in heat capacity since you retain the stock rotors. There is an aesthetic benefit, along with better pedal feel/modulation and slightly more clamping force.

That figure is not correct. I understand that it was posted as an official figure in the past. But the curb weight most recently listed by Audi was around 3850 which is in the ballpark.

A few people have weighed there cars on scales. Here is one I had saved. I've seen another @ 39xx, and two more which were just over 4,000. All without driver, of course.

I've also had my car on the scale, DSG, 1/2 tank of gas, full fluids, full interior, light weight wheels, between 4050 and 4100lbs.

I'd guess somewhere around 50 lbs extra for DSG over a manual based on other cars with DSG vs manual. Interestingly, Car and Driver noted that the Sports Differential adds ~40lbs to the weight in their first drive review. Seems like a lot, but I assume that info came straight from Audi.

Q5 calibers + some LW rotors, pads and stainless steel lines and you are good to go

I would consider going to a bigger rotor, and all the requirements as a major upgrade that will never be cheap.

Just going with LW rotors + pads made a difference. If I find a good deal on the calibers I think from a performance point of view I will be 100% done with the car.

I always thought that European weights were given without fluids in the car. Maybe that was just an urban legend.

For what year was that? Have you looked to see what the same published numbers for North America are?
