    Any truth to this?

I posted the following text to PW, but as I also have an aftermarket head unit in my B6, I suspect a similar possibility might exist...

"Decided to test out my new Foxwell VAG-COM by attempting to reconnect both of my key fobs (which did work at one time) to my 2002 Passat.

I was successfully able to clear channel 00, but when it came to setting 01 for two keys, it didn't work.

I looked in my Bentley manual to see if any answers could be gleaned and found a statement that one could damage a code scanner if the 'wrong' radio (I.e. aftermarket) is installed.

I suspect it might be the reason I couldn't get it to work, providing there's any truth to that statement.

It did recommend disconnecting the radio to avoid possibly damaging the scanner, which I will probably do when I have a free couple of hours.

    Thoughts?

Seems to be much more about the wiring harness setup than the radio itself. I have an aftermarket radio and it works just fine with my rosstech cable. I did look up the pinouts and info on the wire that causes this problem, and made sure my harness wasn't using that wire.
From what I understand, the rosstech cables have built in protection to prevent damage if your radio is wired wrong.
