Jhm short shifter, early and later style interchangeable?

The Jhm short shifter in my 2000 feels like the bushings give a lot of resistance. Going side to side actually takes effort and I can hear it in the shifter unit.

I have a parts 2001 car with a super smooth later style. Can I swap the shifter unit from one to the other?

All (b5) 01e 6spd trans are the same. I don't have part numbers to match up but I have read a lot in this even the b6's are the same with a little lower gearing.

You need to transfer all of the linkage and the selector shaft cover.

It's also possible that it's the actual trans...

Tried installing the JHM later style shifter into my early shifter car and I got every gear but reverse. No matter how much I adjusted I could not get reverse.

I remember that the early shifter box wasn't deep enough to select reverse. Everytime I would try and the shifter assembly would bottom out in the box

Threw in the old shifter and reverse was exactly where it should have been.

No the shifters vary between 2000-2001. The part that attaches to the linkage is curved on the 01+ while the 2000 is a straight piece..

Swap the black piece on the bottom that connects the shift linkage to the shifter itself. Thats the only piece that is different with the shifters
