So I have 91K on my 05 A4 S-Line 1.8T. The other day I notice at the drive through a loud noise coming from the front end. Upon further inspection the tensioner seemed to be vibrating and jumping. I replaced the tensioner, however it still jumps and now I have a louder noise.
I took the belt off again to test the alternator pulley. In a fixed position the pulley would not rotate clockwise, however it would rotate counter clockwise with some resistance. I think this is normal.
It sounds like the PAS is out of fluid but the reservoir is full. My A/C does not blow cold, so I'm wondering if its coming from the A/C pump (which it seems to be) and if it just needs a charge or if it needs to be replaced.
The noise occurs with or without the AC on and it doesn't start until the car comes to idle around 800rpm. Also the noise is unaffected by turning the wheel. PAS is working great.
