    Slow reverse gear engagement?

Hey all, picked up my 2016 A4 recently, 8 speed tiptronic. Love the car but one thing that is bothering me is that it appears when selecting the reverse from park, there is a noticeable delay before the car goes into gear on flat surfaces as well as slight inclines. When I shift into reverse and let my foot off the brake the car doesn't move and then a second later will engage and begin rolling backwards. Sometimes the car will be fine, engage and begin rolling but more times than not I experience the delay. Car is smooth through all gears when driving and car does not clunk or shift hard into reverse, just the delay. Am I being paranoid or is this normal? Car is going in tomorrow to be looked at but I'm expecting the operating normal message from the dealer. Just seeing if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks everyone!!!!

I don't recall my previous 6AT car exhibiting that behavior, nor any loaners that I've had. But I'm one of those patient people who puts the car into D or R, then waits a second before heading off. I got used to that with my 1986 Monte Carlo SS with a 200R4 transmission and the habit stuck. Lol.

I have the same thing happen on my 2013. Sometimes happens from reverse to drive but really don't think there is any issue. Everything else is smooth.

I have this on my '15. Not sure if you have a back up camera or not, but I do and I think it waits until the camera engages before the car will move. Do you use your e-parking brake regularly? I wonder whether disengagement of the parking brake may delay reverse as well. Just a couple of thoughts. With all these added high tech features....it's almost like the car gets confused sometimes in the order of operations. I wouldn't worry about it too much but a few things to consider.

Thanks for the responses all. I do have the backup camera and I also thought this may be the source of the delay. Maybe I just need to be a bit more patient letting it engage, but thought it was odd, as I never experienced this with my11 and my13 A5's, although neither of those cars had the backup cam. Car is currently at the dealer, but I'm enjoying the 2016 A6 I'm in...haha

Mine does the same. I figured it was because of the camera as well, and let it go. I'm going to ask my dealer about it, maybe they'll give me a different answer.

Nope they said it was normal but it's annoying. I have it documented at least. Seems to be more prevalent when car has sat for awhile or overnight. Anyways it's under warranty so if the tranny craps out it will be replaced. I only keep cars like 2 years anyways so I'm not going to stress it.

Just wondering how this turned out? Son just got his first car, 2013 A4 2.0 FWD with 70k miles. It is mint condition inside and out! But has a slow engagement going from park to reverse, and reverse to drive. Any one have any suggestions? Thanks so much for any help.

FWD uses a CVT transmission. I have no clue how the CVTs function on Audis so you'll have to wait for someone to chime in. Either way you don't have tiptronic (automatic torque converter tranny) but instead have multitronic (CVT). I also don't mean to rag on you, for a first car an A4 is nice but getting an Audi without Quattro is like getting a Mustang with the 4-cylinder or getting an iPhone without cell service. If I also remember correctly the CVTs aren't as reliable as the ZF8 (who would've guessed). Keep up with the tranny fluid changes on that CVT (It may be due for one rn actually)
