Aux Coolant Pump Running Full Time???

Okay so yesterday I went to start my car up after a long hiatus... Motor has been out a few times and back in. ECU was stolen... or thrown out. ECU is a new/used M-box with a Euordyne base map.

The car is not fully together at this point. No coolant. Front end is off just to verify I didn't mess anything up. Cluster also isn't back in yet but I'm assuming I can start it as is.

I turn the ignition to ON. Everything seems to prime and such as expected. Went to crank and it barely cranked. I think the battery is toast. Once it failed to start I got a horrible screeching type noise from the intake mani. Really loud. Shut the ignition off and it was still making the noise. Pulled the battery cable and tried again. Same thing. This time I let it make the noise long enough for me to reach in and touch the aux pump. Definitely going full steam ahead with no coolant in it. Probably why it sounds so awful. I shut it off quickly to try to mitigate damage. Oh, I also tried unplugging the aux pump/fan switch in the rear coolant passage while it was squealing away to see if it would stop. Only disconnecting the battery would stop it.

My question is where should I start looking? Is the fact that carrier isn't on/plugged in causing this?

Is the ECU I got not compatible or something? Going off memory I think my car was an H-box because I have ESP and it had an F-hose. That's what I gathered from the S4 Wiki.

Any ideas, guys? I scanned the car and the only codes I got were for the cluster not being there and voltage too low.

First I want to take care of this aux pump thing and then address the non-start issue.

It always runs after The engine was running or attempted start up, it can't tell the difference, and if it's hot enough activates the fan too.

All sounds pretty normal, try unplugging the pump so you don't kill it running it dry.
the B5 S4 is like the mafia... there is only one way out!

The cluster needs to be plugged in for the alternator to work.

The gauge cluster? False info. I drove around for weeks without a cluster.

^this. Definitely don't need the cluster in. Drove mine around for a while when I was getting the LCD repaired.

Alright this is kinda reassuring then. I just got weirded out because the first couple times I cranked the car the aux pump never came on.

I have a feeling the no start issue was just a ground or battery issue. I'll investigate further.

Thanks for confirming the cluster part too!
