Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi, i bought a new keyfob shell in ebay, i would like to swap all the internals include the chip and the blade from my key,
i see a post and a member say it wont work because the little glass that turn red when you press a button, he say is coded,
and made for that specific car.

Is this true, anyone has done this before?, Thanks

Yes, it's doable. Bring the board, immobilizer chip and the metal key. See this DIY

So if you swap the blade, board, and chip over to a new fob, you're good to go, no programming right? I need to renew my fobs, both are looking worn, and replacing the buttons never feels right (cheap Chinese shit)

^^^^Yes^^^^ If all you leave behind is the plastic, why wouldn't it? The immobilizer coil can't talk to the plastic.

Haha that's what I was thinking but I needed confirmation.

I did this on my old MK5 Jetta key and ended up busting the chip trying to get it out of the fob. That cost me $300 as I had to have it towed to the dealership, they had to order a new cut key with the chip, and then program the key to the car (I only had one key to that car). All that because I wanted a newer looking keyfob housing...

Those chips are usually epoxied in and are very difficult to move. You can find the chips online for roughly $10 but you still have to get it programmed at the dealer. So be careful when doing it and don't force it in any way.

Disregard this...Apparently the Immobilizer chip is in it's own plastic housing so you don't have to "pop" it out...you just move the little plastic housing to the new key fob...
