Is my B8 S4 trunk latch going bad?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've seen posts about the B7 trunk latch failures, but wasn't sure if my 2012 B8 S4 has the same problems. Sometimes, my trunk does not latch unless I close it firmly. I also had it pop open once after shutting the car door. This is not good.
    1) Will lubrication help and where? If not, I'll have to replace it.
    2) I don't see any latch replacement DIYs for the B8; is it the same as the B7 procedure, which is documented on Audizine? Thanks.

Damn, wouldn't surprise me at all if you have to replace the whole latch. Happened on my 2001 Jetta, and my 2005.5 A4. Was like a $35 part, super easy install.

Does it beep then open? Do you have the smart key? Could be the sensor thinking the key is locked in the car. Mine on occasion will do the same.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

    Yes and yes. That's interesting.

Mine just did this out of the blue the other day. I held the trunk open button on the key fob to pop the trunk and nothing happened. So, I did it again and the trunk opened. When I closed the trunk (with enough force that it should have stayed closed), it popped open after a split second. Can't remember if there was a beep or not. I wondered if maybe it had queued up that first trunk pop or something, haha. I chalked it up to another random quirk of this car, but now that I read this it appears there may be an actual reason for it. I'll be keeping my eye out for it again now.
