EPB not automatically releasing in D or R

My new to me 2013 A6 C7 does not automatically disengage the park brake when I put the car in drive or reverse. I have seatbelt on and doors shut. Is it normal to have to manually disengage it every time? Appreciate any help.

    Thanks in advance

My car does the same thing. I have a 2010 a4 and that's how it is supposed to behave. The funny thing is anytime you someone drives your car for the first time they will be stuck in the driveway for 20 mins trying to figure it out before they have to ask haha.

Finally figured it out. Seat belt on.. put your foot on the brake...start the car ...put it in forward or reverse...take your foot off of the brake and gently tap the throttle pedal...voila! TBH I thought I did this before I asked the question...I must have not had my belt buckled since I was trying to figure it out in my driveway. Anyways hope this helps anyone with the same question.

Why would you not just push the button? The few times I've forgotten to release the EPB it feels like the drivetrain actually gets loaded (meaning the engine is trying to push against the brakes, you're doing yourself absolutely no favours by doing this...) I've noticed it only releases it for me if there's no slope to the car. If there's a slope to the road (up/down or sideways) the car refuses to release the EPB for me, or if the car is slanted sideways (parking half on grass half on road for example.) Presumably it wants you to hold the brakes and, in a controlled manner, deal with the hill.

It totally worked! Learn something everyday. You have to put your belt on, put it in either d or r, then lightly tad the gas. It comes the parking brake comes off and I don't think it puts any strain on the car, the rpms don't even move, it's just a light tap.

If you do as I described there is no load...you will know what I mean when it happens. You can just push the button ..but it says in the owners manual that it is not necessary....and my OCD needed to do it..lol!
