Re-united and it feels oh so good!!

After a 5 year hiatus from my first c5 (and arguably favorite audi) I've slipped back in the drivers seat of another widebody c5.

    2005 allroad 2.7 tip

    Atlas Grey Metallic

    98,000 miles

    RNS-E nav

Recent maintenance all 4 airbags, and compressor replaced. Engine seals and a few gaskets replaced. New snow tires.

Body and interior is a 9/10 (southern car)

Sunroof switch bezel is loose clips in the front may be broken. Also has the lovely "soft touch" paint peeling on a few control buttons.

Coolant appears to have been mixed at some point so that is first on my list of things to take care of. It is a coffee color, initially worried about a head gasket or something else causing coolant and oil mixture, but no sign of that on the dipstick or oil cap so the hopeful assumption is that it needs to be flushed and re filled with the proper G-12/13.

Paid $5,000 which I thought was a fair deal given the condition, year, options, and relatively low mileage of the car. Providing that the discolored coolant is simply a mix of coolant.

On to the timing belt procedure and going to change the transmission filter, top off the fluid after that

Thats what i said the whole 2 hour drive home. The car just "fits" me. Better than my current DD (mkiv Golf) Better than my b5 s4. Although my c4 a6 was a "fitting" car as well... The c5 platform works. Hopefully within the next 3-4 years i'll take ownership of an RS6.

That's a really nice goal, don't get sucked into throwing money into the allroad, there's a ton you can do with it.

Glad you're back from your hiatus. Hope the auto treats you well.

    Window tint

    stereo upgrade

    wheels

    rs6 grill

    LED tails

Put eye shadow on the headlights (my little sister (F73k your rule 22) Said thats what it looked like when I painted the chrome section of my 2000 a6 headlights)

    Black the emblems *cough cough*

Found a spoiler looking thing that goes over the rings on the hatch, on another car I was going to pursue, that I wouldn't mind.

Thanks for the fork in the ribs :) I'll be leary of that EVERY time I drive it. Just couldn't get a manual, I have something screwed up with my left leg and i'm not sure if it has anything to do with driving a manual car on a daily basis for the last 2+ years...

I had a couple auto c5's. Olympic Allroad which I had for 3-6 months with no trans issues, and white 4.2 that a bought with a blown tranny.

I don't trust auto c5's but they CAN last a long time.

Just one and I don't think I'd buy another.

The price premium for what it would cost to build an Olympic stage 3 Allroad is much more than an equivalent stage 3 manual 2.7 s6 and I think the s6 is much more for the money.

I sold the first oly because it didn't make financial sense to build it the way I wanted. No regrets there.

That pretty much sums it up ... the S6 is as loaded as it gets in the C5 avant world without turbos, and you're addressing the absense of boost with your 2.7T swap ...

I've purchased many timing belt kits from ecstuning. I'll likely be ordering a bunch of regular maintenance things from them this go around as well, but I noticed the TB kits the offer have a lot of off brand parts (non oem) such as the tensioner damper, thermostat etc.

Does anyone have a kit of OEM parts, or am I just being too paranoid?

I think I recall Europa having the most OE parts when I did my comparison two years ago.

I love mine but I'm staring at the moment at $1,400 worth of parts on my bench to rebuild the front suspension this weekend. These are not low maintenance cars.

I have stopped buying parts from Blau because of questionable part quality and/or origin... the last kit I bought had a Flennor brand tb I refused to use (which is why a Gates racing blue belt got installed instead on the allroad I sold you). Flennor is made in Germany, but...https://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=361219
The remaining parts were made in various eastern European countries I had to look up on a map

Seems like a great time to pose this question: my tip allroad's chains keep loosening and rattling on the heads. I've replaced them twice. Second time I tore it all down to redo all timing because i wasn't positive something else wasn't wrong. Well I found the timing belt to not be tensioned correctly despite doing it correctly myself. I didn't think much of it (oddly) and just redid everything with new chains and ccts. Fired it back up and rattle was gone.... but it came back slowly within a few weeks.

Do you guys think my tb tensioner is not holding proper tension?

    It's a blau tensioner.

I just can't figure out how that would make the chains rattle...

I had a guy offer me a 129k mile black 2.7tt allroad (auto) arnott 2ND gen coil overs, with rebuilt trans and timing belt etc for my s6... if he came up enough with cash on top I'd take it seeing how much fun 4rings2turbos has with his.

So they specifically mention every part that is listed in the kits, did you not read the product details? I have no clue who flennor is but they are not using them in the kit I got. That article is 4yrs old.
Every part is INA or NTN like most other kits and their kits are still cheaper. I did extensive research between europa, ecs and blau. No problems with blau so far and not like it matters but blau packing was tits.

They didn't give you OEM seals at the least. Not sure about the rest of the kit, didn't look closely.

That is correct, most of the seals were not oem but then again most of the seals i could have purchased from another vendor, i bought their seals kit which was not part of the TB kit. I was referring to TB kit

G Men 08, welcome back. I'm fairly new to this forum but I've come across plenty of your old 4.2 posts in some of my digging around. Will be looking forward to what is in store for the AR.

As far as TB kits. I've got a Blauparts kits on my Passat that is going on strong over 4 years. No issues w/ any of the components. They use OE spec stuff but as someone stated before they're not OEM manufacturers.

I bought an ECS Ult kit for the S6 and noticed the same there. They use mostly OE suppliers but a few rollers, waterpump and other pieces were from companies I've never heard of before.

I don't think an off name roller is going to hurt the engine, however I would pay attention to the tensioners and belts. I think both kits used an NTN (Japan) tensioner which I believe is OE supplier.

Now that I think of it, my serp drive belt on the Passat snapped 18 months ago. That was the belt included in the Blauparts kit. I have since replaced it w/ a Continental. The ECS kits had Continental belts and Gates for the upgrade on the Ult kit.

Re-united and it feels oh so good!!

Europa FTW, they are in Jersey too so cheap/quick ground shipping in the Northeast.

Oh and congrats on and good luck with the car, but here's another fork for ya ribs, allroads aren't TRUE widebody cars ;p

Love it when things aren't as they seem!! Pulled front bumper off tonight to begin some of the fun and the car has certainly been in a fender bender. Nothing horrible but the passenger side bumper mount studs (supposed to be 3) only has 1. Center of the bumper where skid plate is is cracked on the outside of skid plate.

    Let the fun begin.
