Question Turbo too hot? Loss of hp A4 B8 Quattro Sline

Hi guys I'm kinda new, my first post hoping to get help. I have a 2012 A4 B8 Quattro, 120k miles,APR stage 1, Injen cold air intake, Billy boat double dual exhaust. I'm having a issue with loss of performance. At around 3000rpm my car used to take off real good but now it doesn't and I get a sound like blowing air out and whistling and not much power. This started after the hose on my recirculation bov came off and I had to continue driving that way like 20 miles home. When I got home I noticed a good amount of oil had came out of disconnected hose connecting from boost tap to bov. After I put new hose I've had this problem and I think my turbo is getting hotter too. Can anyone help with this?

Any codes. Without the blowoff valve operating you may have had an intake system overpressure and a charge hose blow off or damage to the intercooler. A good visual inspection (maybe pull the bumper cover off) followed by a boost leak test.

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...t-leak-testing Here is one I put together a while ago. I wrote to used the least amount of special tools. But an air compressor or tank set to 5 psi really helps

My guess would be a leaky DV and there might be a soft code not being shown. IE the P3 guage wont detect certain codes. Also check all clamps on intake system for loose leaks.

Ok after going more research I found out I have the ticking sound while coasting. Sounds like another user said "a plastic fork in a fan" which I understood means bad wastegate . Do you think this might be my problem as well?

For about 5 months, I have been dealing with this "ticking sound while coasting" issue. Its your wastegate rattling against ur exhaust housing of the turbo. If the wastegate play is mild, you can purchase a wastegate rattle clip to stop further damage. Installing the clip for Audi (atleast the longitudinally mounted engines) involves removing the cat to gain access to the wastgate. The only real fix is replacing the entire turbo since the exhaust housing/exhaust manifold and wastegate is all one piece, and a turbo rebuild is not an option. There are multiple threads on this issue so you can look back. I remember one guy shortening the arm of his wastegate actually to get rid of the excessive play. I ultimatley had to replace my turbo out of pocket through Audi ( out of warranty) because the car started driving like a NA car, producing no boost at all. I have the same question about why my obd didnt trip a check engine light even though I wasnt producing boost. Hopefully this helps.

Oddly enough I have a DIY on that as well. While I did the repair in the DIY a few years ago, it is still holding up. New turbo is the best option but read over it, it does go in how to diagnose a bad wastegate without any disassembly. Pulling the cat back for a visual is better, but if the wastegate rod is moving it isn't sealed. http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...lapper-(P0299)

Yeah, your DIY will most likely be useful for several more years. Lol this isnt just a Audi issue, it an issue that plagues all turboes throughout multiple auto companies. I know a bmw owner that went through the same thing, unfortanetly for him he had to replace both of his turbo being twin turbo. But anyway, ur diy most most likely be adaptable to help future B9 and current Q3 and Q5 owners.

The big downside is the early IHI K03's had issues with the bushing that the wastegate arm goes thru the turbo housing. It elongates and then the wastegate actuator has no adjuster to take up this slop. On top of that once the bushing elongates, the wastegate doesn't move in quite the same arc and can have seating issues. I have been tempted to grind the weld off the actuator arm and rebush the turbo but i don't have lathe access to machine to fit a bushing. Its possible a standard size would fit but that's a fair amount of labor to go thru. As with a lot of things DIY it depends on how you value your free
time and how much you like to tinker with stuff.

Hex bolt and triple square bolt sets are required. I would also recommend different socket extention sizes, universal socket joints ( more than one), flexible socket extension (mainly to get at the coolant and oil feed and return lines), and lots of patience. The gaskets and o rings can be brought from Audi for about $70 bucks.
