    Red face My first Audi (2008 S-Line A6, 58k)

    Hello everyone! New to the forums (signed up tonight) haha. I have done plenty of reading however. I am a former BMW owner (2005 545i 6spd) but have always been a bigger fan of Audis. I finally found one of my dream machines last Wednesday:

    1 owner, 58k, 2008 Night Blue Pearl S-Line 3.2L A6 Quattro with the Peanut Butter interior. I don't know the official name for the color but that is what I call it. I would of preferred White as the exterior color but coming in contact with the brown interior is few and far between here in St. Louis. The Blue is growing on me however. I do not know how rare this combo is so I was hopefully thinking of you guys could tell me. I have just a few questions for y'all;

    1) Are these motors in general just a bit loud (rumble wise)? Also, from what I have read, the timing guides is what I need to pay attention to on this motor. Once I start to hear a rattle on start up is when I should start to be concerned?

    2) It is my understanding that these transmissions adapt to your driving style correct? I have noticed that while just in regular D, the car likes to zoom through the gears. Is it normal to be in 6 before I have time to blink? Haha.

    3) I am able to feel the "road/vibrations" through the gas pedal more than normal I should say. Is that normal with these cars? It's not that I am picky and expect to have a Bentley smooth of a ride its just that I am keen to little details like that.

    4) Haven't really been able to find anything exhaust wise for the 3.2L. As you can see in the picture, the right tip is bent. I planned on possibly just deleting both mufflers and having a shop weld a straight pipe with a bigger tip to fill the gap. Opinions on that?

    There is a Euro shop here that is pretty reputable among local Subaru, Volvo and Audi locals that I will be taking the car here sometime in the near future. I plan on having them look it over with a fine comb, change the oil and anything else that they should find. In the meantime I plan to debadge, tint the windows, update the start/stop to the 09', new style shift knob, and swap out the S-Line grill with the honeycomb RS6. I also plan on lowering her in the future. I have read that the Koni FSD are a quality pick among members strut wise but what is a good choice for springs? Car is a bit dirty right now so I apologize for that! Thanks for the help and I can't wait to drive this car for years to come!

    Let me be the first one to congratulate. Your car looks beautiful you can definitely get custom exhaust all the way down or can just delete the resonators like you said. Make sure you use VW AUDI spec oil and our car runs 5W 40 factory stock castrol gtx at least in my case for an 07 3.2 but I switched over to Mobil 1 0W 40 per recommendations of the forum users. And it is the best way to prevent the dreaded timing chain issue. Pay attention to the gasket covers and the rear Timing chain seals if your having issues with oil burning. But the car is pure pleasure I had a BMW 740i 95 prior to this and I like the interior Better than the BMW.

    Congrats man! Yea, timing chain tensioners are the main problem point on these engines. A VCDS cable is well worth the money too, helps you do service and great for diagnostics. You have a quattro too I see, so that's good. With a good set of tires, this car handles really well.

    If idle is rough, I'm not exactly sure what you feel as rough, you may need to do a carbon clean, as the FSI engines are prone to carbon buildup on the intake valves. I did mine at ~90K miles, makes a big difference.

    Thanks for the tips gentlemen! As far as the ride noise I mentioned, my Audi does haves Continental PureContact tires on it which could explain the noise. I have recently read they are a loud tire.
