    Need advice, Power steering leak

I bought a 2002 a4 quattro 1.8t about a week ago. nothing but problems from the start. I just finished doing a thermostat replacement. and in the process of checking to ensure i had no coolant leaks, i found a power steering leak... fml. anyway. i am attaching a picture that i circled in red to show where the leak is finally visible. i am not oblivious when it comes to cars but fear a rack may be beyond my skill set. I had my wife turn the wheel left in right in the driveway to see fluid, and this is where the leak is coming from. after about a week of driving my ps fluid is at the min. mark. any idea where it may be coming from? is there another way to check to see exactly where the leak is?

sorry about pic, couldnt for the life of me figure out how to attach it right to post

My car's leak was coming from the high pressure hose to the rack itself. That hose runs from the pump, along the driver side engine bay and terminates at a banjo bolt on the rack. There was also a lot of fresh wet fluid at the cooler tube connections just behind the radiator, lower left hand side, should be 2 Oetiker clamps holding the hoses on.

Recently replaced the return hose from the rack also just as insurance, it is beside the pressure hose on the rack itself and again uses a banjo bolt to secure it also.

I found all my replacement parts locally and eBay for decent prices.

Little advice, I decided to let my pump run a lil too dry accidentally and developed an incurable whine, so keep an eye out for that.

i considered that, as the hose itself (hard to tell in pic i know) coming out of the firewall by the steering column appears to be gunked up and wet. i assumed it was leaking from there originally, but the leak is coming down behind the flap above the circle in my picture, and then dripping down and onto the ground from there. i guess it could be leaking from the connection to the rack, which while not fun would be a much easier replacement then the rack itself. whats the best way to go about getting eyes on this area?

I bought some UV leak dye and a black light on Amazon. Put some in the reservoir and ran the car around the neighborhood. Checked in the engine bay with the black light and immediately found the source of my leak.

custom a4 thank you! and thank you for all replies. sunday is the next day ill be able to bring it into a warm garage and jack it up so ill check then. i will keep a steady eye on fluid level in mean time and any and all advice still welcome. im hoping its just the hose as opposed to a rack seal... but who knows
