    Bought a 2006 a4 3.2 for $900

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was originally buying the car to do a 2.7t stage 3 project because the owner told me the engine is no good and wouldn't start for a year.

After I paid him for the car I decided to try and start it and after cranking it 3 times the car started. It's misfiring and have a code for fuel pressure regulator..

I'd be worried about the timing over advanced. Belt slipped a tooth? When was the timing belt done last?

Also the manifold runners are a decently easy fix.

I thought this 3.2 was a chain not a belt

I thought about that but then I remembered that it has over 300,000 miles on it. so I am just going to keep it as a project car for my 2.7t single turbo. wont be doing that until the end of the year

I wouldn't be shocked if the misfires were a combination of bad fuel filter/regulator and the broken manifold adjusters.

Both those should definitely be addressed.

Or carbon buildup. It is a DI motor with over 300k miles after all.

Oh yea. Shit I wouldn't be shocked at all if the carbon buildup was horrendous.

Op also plan on doing that. He 3.2s are fairly notorious for nasty carbon buildup.

im sure you could sell the motor for about what you paid for the car. Even with issues a 3.2 for a grand is a good bargain

Intake manifold runners stuck... Definitely carbon build up. I got a code for my manifold runners and did the carbon cleaning shortly after, code never came back. And that's a 3.2 with < 60,000 miles

Ok so I finally got some to to work on the car.
I changed the high pressure pump and sensor.
The cats were clogged up so I had them removed so now I have power and the misfiring is almost gone but now it's smoking a lot from burning oil.

Sorry, front mounted intercooler. I thought I read somewhere that the side-mounted ones on the 2.7T were a little under sized.

I use those because it's going to be a stage 2 for now while I get everything working correctly. I will be doing a single turbo build around the beginning of new year
