    What is this key fob?

    Hey guys, just got this car and had these fobs on the key ring. Any idea what they are and if they are still useful to me? I think I saw a similar post months ago with the same fob...

    It is nothing that belongs to your car that's for sure!

    I suspect since it is lacking buttons, it is some type of transponder for a home alarm, entry door at an office, parking garage or maybe for buying fuel?

    I wouldn't be so quick to throw it away!

    It could be a transponder key if you have a security system fitted to you car.

    I have a similar security solution fitted to my car.

    Good point- I probabaly should have said "nothing made by Audi" is what I meant. Thanks for catching that. Look under the dash and next to the fuse box for anything aftermarket. You can also leave it in the house while you go start your car and see what happens

    It most likely to still be there. My brand new S4 came with LoJack pre-installed (not thrilled with this fact) and I requested it not be activated. I did not get a fob.

    Uhhh that would make me a little worried if I bought a car from a dealer and they didn't know what the fobs were for upon selling the car.. Whatever that sticker on the back is, looks like it has some wear to it.

    I had a LoJack on my previous car, and I'd probably get it again if someone asked...but otherwise I wouldn't go seeking it. If your car gets stolen it can help the police locate it, potentially, but it's not 100%.

    On the note of price, I think I paid like $800 for the one on my previous car. It does *nothing* for resale value, though. It also demands a subscription cost if you want to continue using it.

    If your gonna spend that kinda money on a lo Jack, you can get the viper smart start system for the same price which also has a GPS tracking feature.
