    Service campaigns/recalls

I was reading the thread on the crankcase pressure regulator valve campaign for certain >2011 2.0 engines and it got me thinking. I have a 2010 Avant that had a new long block replaced in March of 2015 due to oil consumption. The dealer told me the long block came right off the line in Germany.

I now wonder if a recall/campaign comes up for my "new" engine how will I ever know since you check for recalls/campaigns via your VIN…...unless the VIN record gets updated after major warranty work such as an engine replacement.

Has anyone run across this or knows?

    Thanks

Just check the valve for the new part number, it should be stamped on the outside of the part.

Reasonable question which honestly never occurred to me. I would suspect they update your VIN record with all of the new information, given that they can basically do targeted recalls/TSBs for only the exact cars with problematic parts. If you speak to a dealer they might be able to confirm, and I'd be interested to know.
