2004 A8L ignition nightmare

Parked my a8, a few hours later went to leave put key in the ignition and turned the key but had no dash lights and car didnt crank over. key fob not working to lock or unlock doors. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes, hooked it back up and then the door locks worked from the key fob, hopped in turned the key and it started up but displayed a red key in the dash, shut it off and tried to start it again and nothing, I dropped the kick panel below the steering wheel and found a square plastic box that the key slides into with whirring harness out the back, cant find any info on the world wide web and its blocking my drive. Please Help

either i am really tired or your description of what happened is really confusing.

did you battery in your key die and now the car is not recognizing it to allow the car to start? I don't know what year you have, i don't know what "i tried to start it again and nothing" means because there is a serious lack of description in our post.
