Converting interior from tan to black

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
When I bought my B7 I didn't think the tan interior was going to bug me but I cannot stand it now. I found someone who will sell me a complete black interior for $700.

Does anyone have any tips or videos to help me tackle this? I was going to spread it out over a few week period because I need my car as its my daily.

I'm in the same boat, except I'm still looking for the interior. I thought I could live with the tan but I'm slowly starting to really dislike it.

I knew from the start that anything other than black was a deal breaker.

Stoooop haha... you're tempting me with that S4 headliner. I just cant fit that in my budget though. Damn how I wish I could pick that up. I need to be buying a baby seat with this money, wife would destroy me otherwise

What are you asking for that headliner, out of curiosity?

Get that seat if you're looking for a toddler seat. I have it and its the best bang for $ imo : clicky click (Mine is black and light grey to match the Recaro's) On a lateral impact, 70% less chances of brain injury because of the air pockets.

It will depend if the guy who's buying one buys the one that just got re-upholstered or the other still original. Get some Dupli-color Vinyl paint and paint it. Keep your accessories tan, install black seats, door cards and lower dash in black it will give a nice two tone look :p

Gotcha. I do have black accessories, its just my ugly headliner and pillars that I hate. Ive already plastidipped my rear view mirror black, that helped a lot

Love my tan interior. It looks bigger, brighter, and it doesn't show dirt as easily.

That's true. I have to work to keep my carpets looking good. But the black dashboard, steering column, console on my B5 always looked dusty no matter what I did.

I did swap my headliner to a black one a few years ago and it isnt really hard as long as you take your time and dont pull anything without making sure you understand how its clipped/mounted.
For the most part, everything comes apart in a specific order so you cant just start pulling at random.
Unfortunately I cant remember the exact order and the thread I used as guidance has all pics gone so wont be much help, but if you get stuck on more specific pieces I might be able to help you along the way.

doing a swap is such a pain lol. I had this weird two-toned black and silver interior by the time I traded in my first B7. My second B7 had to have the ebony interior for sure.

Also look up Wolf Auto Parts youtube channel. They have a few b6/7 videos on how to remove parts from the interior. Putting everything back together is a pain in the butt for sure though so I hope that you're a thorough person lol

It may just be me but I kinda like that two tone look. Definitely wouldn't mind it being like that for a little bit. And yeah I was watching wolf auto parts videos. I was hoping to find some more in depth on the dash and the whole center console.

I didn't mind it and it kind of worked because I had RS4 recaros which have the silver piping, but the biggest thing I wish I had done was swap the dash.
Anyway, the center console isn't too bad. There's a diy here on Audizine. Google center console swap for a b6 and it should come right up.

Do you have rear heated seats? Because if you do, those damn controls on the back of the console make it a huge pain. If not, I can remove it in under 30 minutes now. Pop the head unit out, remove the ac controls and remove a bunch of bolts lol. It's a little more detailed then that but it's not hard.

Yeah my goal is to get recaros eventually and they way they look with that two tone is perfect.

That should of been my other question. I know the B6 is super similar in a lot of ways, and I assuming the interior is almost identical? I find a lot of videos and threads for B6s.

The interiors are almost identical in every way. The only difference between center consoles is that the b6's don't have cup holders, which means they are always looking for b7's to swap in.
