is it worth checking the carfax on a vehicle your going to look at? or is there another website worthwhile or better then carfax? if a car had major services done at the dealership would it show up in a carfax? such as timing belt water pump?

I would say yes. You can ask the seller to provide it and see what happens If they're honest, I don't see why they wouldn't since the cost of a report compared to the price of the car they are trying to sell is minor. Major services should show up on the report but I have found that they don't always. I think it depends on if they are entered in by the dealership or not. Ask the seller if they have receipts for any services done or if they know where work was done, give the shop/dealership a call to verify.

Also, you could try Autocheck from Experian. It's cheaper than Carfax and I've found multiple times that certain things will show up on that that hasn't shown up on the Carfax.

yeah i think ebaymotors uses autocheck. over the years i have found that its hard to believe sellers unless there is paperwork. with some of the cars getting to be 15 years old and trading hands 2-4x's it gets lost or never handed over. as much as you want to believe them its tough. thanks for the input skip

If you provide the vin to an Audi service manager, they can run a service history report (that shows dealer service). They can also list all of you vehicle's installed factory options. Not sure if this is standard practice at all dealers or not

When I got my tires installed at an aftermarket wheel and tire shop I noticed a Carfax sign behind the counter and inquired about. I asked how does it work between you and Carfax. She told me that they don't do anything, carfax downloads all the info from them and my tire change would show up on Carfax. I haven't checked to see though if it did.
