Roc euro intake. Rubbing on silver pipe??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know there is already a thread for this but can find it for the life of me. As I said, the intake pipe is rubbing on the silver pipe ( I think it's an oil pipe, it gets damn hot). To the point it's showing some wear on the silver pipe. For the life of me, I can't adjust it to clear it completely. Sometimes I can get a little gap in there but I bet as soon as I shut the hood, it's rubbing. Anyway, is there any high temp tape or wrap I can wrap that portion of the silver pipe with to prevent further wear??? Thanks!!

Derek, here is a link for the thread. I bought a 1" diameter rubber hose from Auto zone and covered the ac line for a couple bucks. Some were able to get the hose for free. Hope this helps.

    Here is the thread.

Mine was doing the same thing so I bought a small piece of rubber heater hose from Pep Boys and zip-tied it onto that pipe. It's been good ever since.

Derek, the roc euro coupler is so soft and weak, it flexes.
I bought a silicone coupler from autozone and I was able to adjust it away from the coolant line.

    Just throwing another option

Would anyone mind sharing some photos of the Roc Euro system installed, specifically showing where the intake tube passes thru the opening in the heat shield? In my opinion if it was designed properly, when the intake tube is bottomed out on the bottom contour of the heat shield cut-out, there should be adequate clearance between the intake tube and the silver AC line in question. Apparently this is not the case?

I too had the rubbing issue a while back and came up with a solution that has been working great.

Here's what I did... Wrapped the tube in exhaust/header wrap and at the point where the intake tube rests on the heat shield I wrapped around a couple extra times, such that the wrap ensures that the tube is elevated from that coolant pipe... I have a pic from a while ago that might help you visualize this (directly to the right of the clamp on the filter is where I wrapped around extra):

The intake tube *is* bottomed out on the heat shield. The problem is that the heat shield itself is so poorly anchored in the engine bay. So, the whole shield moves, which then allows the intake tube to come into contact with the AC line.

Wow that's pretty poor. Not to ignite the whole RocEuro vs CTS thing - but CTS is just doing it so much better. Based on the various improvements present on the CTS I wouldn't even call it a copy. If it was a copy it would have the same shortcomings as the Roc Euro.

these threads make me want to buy the $299 ECS intake. for $20 more, it seems its worth not having to deal with the headache.

No you're right, its a coolant line. People get confused because it sort of looks like an A/C line.

Right. It's defiantly coolant. Is wrapping it in a rubber tube safe?? Has anybody that has done it seen any "meltage?"

I do not know whether it's safe, but I would be more inclined to find a way to anchor that heat shield and/or add some sort of cushioned shimming between the intake tube and the bottom contour of the heat shield cutout to keep the tube away from the coolant line.

I used heater hose. It's designed to carry hot coolant. The stuff I used is rated from like -40 to +257 deg F. So it damn well better not melt . You can buy silicone hose that's rated even higher, too.

Yeah, it could be better anchored to the air inlet. The CTS one hooks in while the Roc just kinda sits there. I still love mine though :)

I used two 12" zip ties to hold the intake hose at the top of the heat shield. Maintains about a 1/2" gap from the coolant line. I'll post pics tmw. Definitely a jury-rig solution, but zip ties are a helluva lot less expensive than a new intake.

Right. But a different intake is the "real" solution to stop the intake from rubbing a hole in the coolant line.

Every time this comes up, I go and check mine again with the expectation that I have to go buy some heater hose. I've had the intake installed for 3 years now and check it regularly anyway and it has never moved or rubbed on anything.

I had the intake on for about 2,000 miles before I caught wind of this problem on the forum and checked. I had a small clearance gap, but the damage was still there. I tried adjusting the intake but couldn't find a position where it wouldn't hit. Finally ended up wrapping the coolant line with a hose.

A pic of the line and bottom of the intake:
